INTRODUCTION

The California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) is

a group of standards that helps teachers to plan and deliver their
best practices. The following presentation will show one or more
artifacts that reflects my understanding and dedication to
provide the same learning opportunity to all students. Each
activity and project were designed thinking about the different
learning styles and students needs.

TPE 1: MAKING SUBJECT MATTER

COMPREHENSIBLE TO STUDENTS

Activity: What is Being a Latino (o)

Students were asked first to share with a partner one or two things that they like

This artifact shows my ability to create activities to Engage and Support All
Students in Learning which is part of the (CSTP) first standard. Having a well
planned activity students were able to understand and follow instructions. This is a
good example to demonstrate the importance of having and following content and
CSTP standards.
In this activity students were able to communicate in Spanish and to explore
cultural elements of their own culture.

CULTURAL LEGEND

In Spanish language the difference between regular and irregular verbs in the past tense can be
challenging for many students. In order to promote a safe learning environment as its
recommended in the second standard of the CSTP, I decided to assign a cultural and fun project
to give all students the opportunity to demonstrate in a unique way their ability to conjugate in
the past tense.
Task:
Write a creative legend that explains why an animal has a certain characteristic.
Create a pop-up book to display the legend.
Write your legend in the past tense.
The artifacts chosen
Time: 2 weeks
Total time to work in class: 8hrs and after school 8
Materials: provided by teacher
Assistance: Classmates and teacher
This project was designed for all learning styles and needs. All students were able to completed
on time and I was able to assess them on time.

CULTURAL LEGENDS

These books are an example of promoting equal opportunities to all students.

One book is from a IEP student and the other one is from an advanced student. Both
Students received a passing score because they were graded mostly on their ability to
conjugate in the past, and less points were assign to creativity.

ENGAGING AND SUPPORTING

express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions.

Standard 1.3: Students present information, concepts, and ideas to an audience

using the language for personal enjoyment and enrichment.

MY FAVORITES PERSON PROFILE

EL PERFIL DE MI PERSONA FAVORITA

This activity was engaging and fun to do for most students due to their familiarity with
social media. Students were encouraged to use their imagination and creativity to describe
a person, while at same time they were practicing grammar rules, informal and formal
communication. This activity was not part of the curriculum, but I considered that
activating students familiarity with social media, was more appealing than worksheets to
practice the different language functions. To make a lesson more appealing and
interesting sometimes is necessary to use different teaching strategies as is recommended
in CSTP standard 3

I presented in English and

Spanish two examples of
social profiles.

MY SELF-PORTRAIT

Towards the end of the school year, I invited students to do a self reflection on their academic growth. First they
wrote a letter to themselves describing what they enjoy learning, their strengths and at least one thing they taught
needed improvement. The second part of the project, was to create an artifact to represent who they are, and
how they would like others to see them. This project demonstrates my ability to plan and to incorporate activities
that are easy to access for all students.

CREATING AND MAINTAINING EFFECTIVE

ENVIRONMENTS FOR STUDENT LEARNING

Warm-ups, Behavior logs and participation cards are used daily to support positive behavior to
ensure a climate in which all students can learn(CSTP)

Having a daily routine helps students to be more organized and helps me with classroom
management skills. While students were working on the warm up activity I was able to take
assistance and check homework. It also helped students to review material from the previous
class. Every week students behavior was measured by using a behavior log. And participation
cards were used to call out volunteers.

DEVELOPING AS A PROFESSIONAL
EDUCATOR

At the beginning of the last year I felt lonely and lost because I am the only Spanish
Single Subject candidate in the program. Fortunately this situation changed when I met
my Cooperative teacher who helped me to improve my classroom management skills,
lesson planning and much important gave support when I needed. As I was getting
better at teaching, I felt confident in visiting other classes to learn different teaching
strategies, and to visit other administrative personnel to learn more about the schools
regulations and benefits for students and teachers. In November I will assist to my first
professional development conference for World Languages at San Diego Convention
Center. According to this CSTP my students will benefit more if I am more prepared.
