1. Scope of leadership roles and accomplishments *

Rachel Rosenblum embodies what it means to be a leader. For three years she has
served as New England Baptist Hospitals Vice President of Ambulatory Operations
and Program Development, and in that time she has helped to transform how
ambulatory care is delivered across all six of NEBHs campuses. Rachels
responsibilities are nothing short of impressive. At just 39 years old, she has
principal organizational responsibility for the development and implementation of
ambulatory programs and services across the Baptist Network. This includes
ambulatory surgery, radiology and imaging, laboratory, outpatient rehabilitation,
occupational health, integrative medicine, spine center, and pain management
services.
Rachel was responsible for expanding the New England Baptist Hospital ambulatory
network, beginning with the opening and operationalizing of NEBHs new, state-ofthe-art Outpatient Care Center, located in Dedham, Massachusetts. The 66,000
square-foot facility houses physician consults, ambulatory surgery, pain
management programs, occupational health, outpatient rehab and an
internationally renowned Spine Center. NEBH also opened a multispecialty
orthopedic physician practice in Bourne and a spine center access program in
Westborough.

Rachels medical accomplishments began when she received her Bachelor of

Science in Occupational Therapy from Elizabethtown College, and her Master of
Healthcare Administration from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Following her Masters degree, Rachel held roles at Rush University Medical Center,
Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Montefiore Medical Center, and Brigham and
Womens Hospital. Following this impressive history, Rachel finally landed at New
England Baptist Hospital, where she has been proving her influence since day one.

2. Financial and operating performance of organization(s) under

nominees leadership *
Under Rachels leadership, New England Baptist Hospitals key outpatient services
have grown substantially. Between FY13 and FY14, Rachel helped to increase
ambulatory surgery services by nine percent, spine center services by 18 percent,
pain management by 34 percent, occupational health by 27 percent and outpatient
rehabilitation by an impressive 54 percent. In addition to growth, Rachel also helped
NEBHs patient satisfaction scores for ambulatory surgery reach the 99th percentile.
In addition to overseeing NEBHs growth, Rachel also oversees an impressive staff
of 185 clinical and administrative personnel, and a $30 million operating expense
budget. She has led the implementation of a number of important partnerships
between the hospital, physicians, and strategic partners to optimize surgical quality,
affordability, and patient experience. For example, Rachel advanced NEBHs
strategy to expand its sports medicine presence through the establishment of a
team affiliation agreement with Merrimack College. She has also recruited over 20
physicians to the NEBH medical staff, and has established professional service
agreements to fulfill clinical and administrative requirements in anesthesia,
radiology, occupational health, and perioperative medicine specialties.

3. Individuals community service *

Community service has been an integral part of Rachels life from the time she was
child, and throughout her impressive career. Her desire to help the blind live life to
their fullest has been a passion in pursuit for many years. Rachel acted on this
passion when she became a volunteer at Massachusetts Perkins School for the
Blind in 2013. She currently serves as both a member of the Board of Corporators,
and a member of the Perkins Products Committee. In these roles, she acts as an
ambassador and advocate for Perkins School for the Blind, and strives to create a
network that enhances the schools ability to communicate and partner with the
community.
Rachel is also a strong supporter of the Arthritis Foundation. As arthritis is one of the
most prevalent diseases New England Baptist Hospital treats, she consistently

encourages colleagues to get involved in the Foundation through educational and

outreach initiatives.

4. Leadership roles outside of the nominees organization

As previously mentioned, Rachel has held impressive leadership roles in her
extensive community service initiatives. In addition to volunteering at
Massachusetts Perkins School for the Blind, Rachel serves as both a member of the
Board of Corporators and a member of the Perkins Products Committee. In these
roles, Rachel builds upon her leadership and development experience to act as an
ambassador and advocate for the school. She has worked tirelessly to build a
network that enhances the schools visibility with the community.
Rachels leadership continues through her initiative and commitment to teach
others. She routinely mentors her colleagues within the New England Baptist walls,
fellow peers in the healthcare industry and Suffolk University and New England
Baptist fellows. Rachels involvement in the American College of Healthcare
Executives (ACHE) has been the impetus to her leadership growth as she provides
direction, advice and expertise to young executives who are just starting their
careers. She understands the future of healthcare, and knows that it takes bright,
well-rounded professionals to make significant advancements in the field. The ACHE
awarded Rachel the 2012 Early Career Healthcare Executive of the Year Award for
her leadership ability, innovative and creative management skills and development
of NEBHs growth and stature in the community.
