Support Class

Description of Program and Students

ISC serves students who struggle to
complete their classes in the typical
arrangement. These students often have
had poor attendance, struggle with
classroom behavior, experience difficulty
managing the curriculum outcomes in a
large group setting, are experiencing
stressful life circumstances (mental illness,
family distress, addiction/abuse) or other
issues that significantly impact their
success. These students complete their
learning in a module-based format with 1:1
or small group support, permitting
significant and crucial relationships to
develop with the ISC teacher.
Students who have experienced significant
challenges earning credits in a regular
classroom are often able to show success
in ISC. In some cases, this classroom is
the essential and only route to earn
Graduation credentials as they have not
experienced success in other forms of
delivery.

option courses as well as full inclusion as

require additional supports and services
such as ILO, toileting, high rates of
supervision as well as social/emotional
intervention and support. They may also
have mobility issues.

Hybrid Group

Students in this group are unique as they

do not fit into either ILP or K & E all of the
time. They may have needs that are similar
to the students in ILP or K & E but require
more individualized programming. Many of
these students are coded Severe 44 (most
have an existing FASD diagnosis) or have a
severe learning disability where their
reading is more than 2 years below grade
level. The students in this group are a
varied group with a wide variety of
academic and social/emotional needs.
They require more significant levels of
support but many are capable of completing
K & E and even regular outcomes.
