THE FORMING OF A NEW INDIVIDUAL

FROM ONE PARENT

IT DOES NOT INVOLVE THE PROCESS
OF FERTELIZATION
DAUGHTER CELLS (OFFSPRING) ARE
IDENTICAL TO THE PARENT CELLS

KINDS OF ANIMAL ASEXUAL

REPRODUCTION
BUDDING
FRAGMENTATION
BINARY FISSION

1.BUDDING
The mature parent produces a bud which will
grow and finally detach itself from the parent
to form a new organism.
Example : Hydra

2. FRAGMENTATION
Each piece of the parent that is detached
can grow and develop into a new individual
Example : Planaria

3. Binary Fission
The mature parent cell divides into two to
form new organism
Example : Amoeba

It involves the fussion of male and female

gametes (called fertilization) to produce a
new cell called zygote
The zygote will then grow into a new
individual

Male gamete
(Sperm)
Fertilization

Zygote

Female gamete
(Egg)

Growth

New individual

1. External fertilization
* Gametes are fertilized outside the female
body
* For example, fertilization of the gametes
takes place in the water. The zygote that is
formed develops in the water
Many eggs and sperms are produced as
the chance of the fertilization is low
Occurs in amphibians and fish

2. Internal Fertilization
Gametes are fertilized inside the female body.
The zygote that is formed will develop inside the
female body
Very few eggs are produced as the chance of
fertilization is high
Occurs in humans, mammals, birds, reptiles and
insects

Early events in development of a fertilized egg in

amphibians, reptiles, and mammals
