Introduction
Look on television, the Internet, social media, radio, newspaper, and even in your own body- science is EVERYWHERE! I
am excited to have you in my class for this very special school year. I will be teaching science a little differently than usual. In
addition to the wonderful student you already are at MSMS, you are now invited to be a scientist- to ask questions and solve
21st Century problems. We will study Science to understand its impacts in this world in which we live.
I CAN USE SCIENCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN MYSELF.
I CAN USE SCIENCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN MY FAMILY.
I CAN USE SCIENCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN MY COMMUNITY.
I CAN USE SCIENC TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN MY COUNTRY.
I CAN USE SCIENC TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN MY WORLD.
Now who is excited about Science this year? I am!!!!!
Ubuntu (African Zulu word which means Humanity): I am who I am because of who we all are. We are a community of
peacemakers, change agents, and LEADERS! This means we treat others with RESPECT and Dignity- ALWAYS!
I CAN, I WILL, I MUST- This means that you are CAN-DO, WILL-TRY learners. Nothing in life is easy, so I will
always challenge you to be the best YOU! All you have to do is give 150% effort and we will accomplish great things
together.
3 strikes youre out. (2 warnings Removed from the group/Bumped to another classroom/In-School

Keep a small problem small! Warnings are opportunities to turn your behavior around!
Parent Call HOME if problem continues to happen.
o Three Calls will result in Parent/Teacher Conference.
wrong! These will be collected on Fridays and you will be given credit for completion- not correctness.
Note Taking: It is important that you take excellent class notes and keep them well organized in your science
notebooks. You will need these notes for projects, to study for quizzes & tests and to study for the EOGS/Final Exam!
Daily Class Work and Participation: This is the main activity of the day. It will be a mix of readings and
comprehension questions, science labs, activities, demos, computer activities and web research, and projects.
Daily Exit Ticket: You will have an exit ticket to assess your understanding of the key learning objectives.
5) Homework: Expect homework regularly. The majority of your homework grade is based on completion and effort,
so GIVE IT YOUR BEST.
Make-up work
When a student misses class it is his/her responsibility to figure out the work that needs to be made up. You can ask your
peers for class notes and check the assignment calendar for assignments. Also, you can check Edmodo for make-up work.
Until make-up work is completed, it is a 0.
Also, you may email Mr. Hunter between the hours of 4pm-7pm if you need help on your work, miss an assignment, or
to inform me of a future absence. Please, please take advantage of this- PARENTS and STUDENTS!

In whole class learning it is expected that everyone is actively listening and participating. This means eyes, ears, and attention
on the speaker. Always raise your hand and wait to be called on to speak.
Independent Work
We will be starting off the year with a great deal of independent work until as a class we can prove that we are ready to do
more interactive group work. There will be independent work like writing and reading assignments, activities, and projects.
We learn by processing and reflecting upon things on our own, without the pressure of others.
Team Work
I have a simple motto:
Team-Work makes the Dream-Work. This means that you are responsible for working together to
complete the task. I will assign groups, and will NOT tolerate DISRESPECT to your peers. We must work
together so that we can accomplish the HUGE things that we were designed to CONQUER! You will be
assigned to the same team for the entire semester. The team members are your co-workers.
Early Finishers
You may not put your head down and rest. We are never done learning, working hard, and pursuing new knowledge!
NFL- NEVER FINISHED LEARNING!
1. Start your homework.
2. Help another student.
3. Go to the classroom library and choose a book or an article and an activity to do with your article/book.
