An Introduction to Legacy Letters

Session #1: Monday, October 5, 3:30 pm.
Session #2: Monday, October 19, 3:30 pm.
Legacy letters, also known as ethical wills,
are a way to share your values, blessings,
lifes lessons, hopes and dreams for the
future, love, and forgiveness with your

letters are not legal documents. They are
heartfelt expressions of what matters most
in life.
Session #1
You will learn how to get started (finding
ones voice) or continue to write your
Legacy Letter.
Session #2

have worked on their letters a chance to ask
more questions and to get help with
composing or editing. After you have
composed a draft of your letter, receive help
with the writing process from our
facilitators, librarians from Kent District
Library, Mark Dunham and Laura
Veeneman.
Cost: $6 includes both sessions.

Apprentice For Life

Apprentice for Life Lecture Series
A 1,000-Mile Great Lakes Island Adventure
Tuesday, September 29, 1 p.m.
Ms. Loreen Niewenhuis is back to talk to us about her latest journey! Her 2011
presentation, A 1,000 Mile Walk on the Beach, was a huge hit. Her second adventure, A 1,000
Mile Great Lakes Walk allowed her to touch all five Great Lakes. She recently completed her
third trek 1,000 Mile Great Lakes Adventure. This time she explored many of the islands of the
Great Lakes. Her journey spanned the wilds of Isle Royale, where she helped gather moose
bones, to the metropolis of Montreal on an island in the St. Lawrence River. It was truly an island
odyssey and, possibly, her most fascinating of her three Great Lakes Adventures!
About the Speaker: Loreen Niewenhuis grew up in Michigan where she pursued a life of
science, raising her sons and writing.
Generously underwritten by Pilgrim Manor
Pilgrim Manor is a nonprofit retirement community dedicated to providing compassionate care
services to seniors including: rehabilitation therapy, skilled nursing, assisted living, memory
care, and respite care. We have a care solution for each phase in your life journey. For more
information, please contact (616) 458-1133 or visit www.pilgrimmanor.org

History of the Creation of the Grand Rapids City Charter

Tuesday, October 27, 1 p.m.
100 years ago a battle was raging that set the city of Grand Rapids on a course the city still
follows today. This battle involved a bookmaking mayor, the furniture industrialists and the
workers of the factories. Learn about how Grand Rapids chartered a journey that would influence
everything that happens in our region today.
About the Speaker: Tim Gleisner is the Head of the Special Collections Department at the
Grand Rapids Public Library. He has been the head of this department for almost eight years. In
this role he had supervised one of the largest historical repositories in the West Michigan region.
He is married with one child and lives in a historic Eastown home.
Generously underwritten by Heartland Health Care Centers
Part of HCR ManorCare, they are one of the largest providers of post-acute skilled nursing and
rehabilitation across the country. The three Heartland facilities in the greater GR area are
uniquely qualified to meet the care needs of individuals with hospital-level acuity transitioning
from hospital to home. As a proven leader ask about their outcomes if you or your loved one
ever needs skilled care following a hospital stay.
