Big Ideas:

Latin American countries and their capitals: Identify country names, placement, and their capitals.
Essential question: What is the name of this country and its capital? Where is it located in the map?
Countries History: It is important to learn the history of each country but history in general is a lot of information, for this unit the
concept of history will be reduced to the students personal interest on the country selected. This will allow for the research
conducted to be self-guided.
Essential question: What big events changed the countries view? Who were the significant historic people? What dates are the
most important for your country and why? (Students are not obligated to answer these questions. These are only here to guide the
students during their research for this section.)
Traveling perspective: This is a fun way to learn the geography, historic landscapes, and important celebrations and events of
each country.
Essential question: Which cities, landmarks, historic landscapes are the most important? What festivals and events are important to
your country? What places where you like to go if you could travel within this country?

Unit Goals and Objectives:

Each
-

student will:
Be able to identify country names, placement, and their capitals.
Comprehend and share with others information received about history.
Collaborate with others to research, analyze, and report on the history, facts, festivals, and cities.
Be able to summarize the information found properly integrating the language skills learned in previous classes.

Unit Summary:

It is difficult to understand how so many different countries share the same language. Just think about it! Spanish is spoken in all of
South and Central America, Mexico, and Spain. With only one language you can communicate with millions of people. But to get to
know everything of the countries that speak this language is nearly impossible, therefore, the goal of this until will be for us as a
class to learn key things about each country. We will start by reviewing the names, capitals, and geographical location of each of
them. Within groups you will be required to collaborate by conducting research that will allow you to get to know one country and
later share with the class. At the end of the unit we will all have a great amount of information about the countries that speak this
language. Your big project for this unit will be for you create a traveling route/guide for somebody who is interested in visiting your
country. Summarizing the unit with a QuickWrite in which you will select one country that you will like to visit explaining in detail
why you chose it, making references to the historic part, cities, sites, and festive shared by your classmates.
