RAFT Row 1
Objective: Create and use representations to organize, record, and communicate
mathematical ideas.
ISTE STANDARD 1. Creativity & Innovation (a, b, c); 2. Communication & Collaboration (a, b); 3.
Research & Information (a, b, c,)

Student Role: Alex Rodriguez

Audience: Baseball Fans
Format: A press conference
Topic: How does specialist know who the top homerun hitter is?

Directions:
1. Use a prepopulated table to organize the top 5 homerun hitter according to their homerun
record.
2. Use the table to create an informational AD using Microsoft word.
3. Students will present their AD to the class.

Assessment: Students will prepare an AD using word. Students will include a visual
representation of the baseball player and their score. Students will present their AD to the rest of
their classmates.

RAFT Row 2
Objective: Identify types of foods that help the body grow such as healthy breakfast and snacks.
ISTE STANDARD 1. Creativity & Innovation (a, b, ); 2. Communication & Collaboration (a, b, c, d); 3.
Research & Information (a, c, d) 4. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Decision Making (a, b, c,)

Student Role: Yourself, Student

Audience: Cafeteria Manager
Format: Power Point Presentations
Topic: How can we get better meals or healthy snacks in our school menu?

Directions:
1. Create a PowerPoint presentation that includes a lunch/breakfast meal with foods from all
the groups of the pyramid.
2. Each food group will include the amount of calories that it contains.
3. Student will be encouraged to use visuals, sounds and effects for their powerpoint.
Resources:

Assessment: Students will present their power point presentation to their classmates. Students
will determine which powerpoint includes a healthy choice that the cafeteria manager will agree
to serve.

RAFT Row 3
Objective: Weather is recorded and discussed on a daily basis so students may begin to
recognize patterns in the weather. In addition, patterns are observed in the appearance of objects
in the sky.
ISTE STANDARD 1. Creativity & Innovation (a, b, c); 2. Communication & Collaboration (a, b, c); 3.
Research & Information (a, b, c,d)

Student Role: Meteorologist

Audience: Local weather channel viewers
Format: Informative podcast report (Moviemaker)
Topic: What can we observe in nature to predict the weather?

Directions:
1. Student will use smartphone, ipad, tablet, video recorder etc to create a 2 minute video on
movie maker.
2. The video must include themselves outdoors observing various things in nature that can
help them predict the weather
3. Students will present their videos to the class. Students will follow a rubric to score the
video and grade each others video

Assessment: Students will turn in a rubric for each student that includes a score for their
presentation.

Section Four: Differentiating Instruction through Technology

The comprehensive Classroom Technology Plan I have for my future classroom is to use
different technological devices to enhance learning. Keeping students interested and engaged in
the lesson using technology is something I want for my students to experience. Using technology
will help my students learn experience and become familiar with using electronic devices on a
daily basis. Making the lessons fun and exciting through technology will allow students to do
research, watch videos, and learn through playing video games. Each student is unique so it is
important to design different curriculum for different students because of their abilities to learn.
Finding ways to accommodate every student in my classroom is my goal.
Microsoft Word. Students will have access to a prepopulated table created in
Microsoft word by the teacher. The table will include headings that will help students organize
the data needed to complete it. Student will need to apply mathematical skills to organize the
numbers from largest to smallest. Students will be engaged since the records are from real life
baseball players and most students are familiar with the sport. Students are exposed to searching
through available templates that Microsoft provides. Students will include pictures and scores of
the top baseball players with the highest homerun hits. Following the ISTE Standards in

Creativity and Innovation Students can forecast who the top homerun hitter is. They create an
original work with their informative AD. They interact, collaborate and present their ads to their
peers. Teacher can expand on their communication and collaboration during their presentation by
asking questions regarding the players. Their cultural background and discuss some of the
challenges they face when they play in the US. Student locates, and organizes information
regarding the players scores and about their records.
PowerPoint Presentation: Students have access to online interactive resources to learn
more about the food pyramid. Students that lack the background knowledge regarding food
groups are able to close that learning gap. Interactive websites are fun and engaging for kids in
elementary. Students will discuss the food groups and work collaboratively to construct
PowerPoint presentations that include a meal of their choice. During their presentation of the
PowerPoint teacher can expand on their communication by asking why certain students prefer
certain groups, based on their cultural preference. Teachers always have the opportunity to
expand their students learning by asking questions that will raise the level of rigor in their
instruction. Students are able to create a unique work with their PowerPoint. They locate,
organize and evaluate the information gathered to create a meal that the cafeteria manager will
approve to serve in their cafeteria. Teacher can also encourage students to add visuals, sounds
and motions to their PowerPoint Presentation. Students need to be given the opportunity to be
innovators and creative. Many teachers have frequently neglected the talents of the most
creative individuals, leading these individuals to unpleasant experiences (Morgan, 2014).
MovieMaker: There are many interactive resources that pertain to the weather. The
resources provided to the students are only a few that will help them learn more about the
weather. Students will use that information to notate what they need to observe in order to

predict the weather. Students will take pictures, selfies or short video clips that include data for
their short video clip. Student is encouraged to apply existing knowledge to generate a short
video clip that includes their prediction for the weather. They can also identify trends in weather
and forecast possibilities. During the presentation of their video clip they are able to interact,
collaborate, and present to their peers their findings. Teacher can expand their knowledge by
discussing weather around the world and what the weather is like in certain areas of the world.
Using the technology discussed above brings about many pros that enhance student
learning. For example, students are actively engaged and interested in the lesson. They are
exposed to software and technology tools that are available in everyday life. Since students are
actively engaged teachers do not have to deal with discipline problems. The resources provided
to students allow them to access information fast and easy. Interactive websites and videos help
retain information, and access at a later time. They are also exposed and encouraged to
collaborate and interact with their peers. The Con that stands out the most for me is that students
have tendencies to explore unsecure websites. With social media interaction students are exposed
inappropriate materials and cyber bulling. Also, some students don not have the technology
background to operate some of the tools, so teachers need to spend some time teaching the tools.
The pros to using technology outweigh the negative aspect of using them. Research shows
that engaged classrooms often include the use of some kind of technology tool. The best way for
teachers to continue differentiating instruction is with the use of technology in the classroom.
Teachers must plan in advance to address the cons of using technological tools as part of their
lesson. The misuse of technology in the classroom should not discourage teachers from using it.
If used appropriately students will expand their knowledge in fun and interactive ways.
