Course Description: Geometry provides students with experience that deepens the
understanding of shapes and their properties. Deductive and inductive reasoning as well
as investigative strategies in drawing conclusions is stressed. Students explore more
complex geometric situations and deepen their explanations of geometric relationships,
moving towards formal mathematical arguments.
Course Details: A couple of important points about this course.
It is required to have passed Algebra I with a C or better.
This course is considered college preparatory.
There are very high expectations and rigorous works in this course.
There will be many elements of project and cooperative (group) learning activities.
This course will be multi-disciplinary, dipping into other fields including English,
science, and history.
Technology will be incorporated as much as possible in this course.

*Required Course Supplies*: You will need the following materials for this class.
1. A Scientific Calculator A TI-30 would work well in this course. Adequate scientific
calculators can be purchased for between $1 and $15.
2. A Binder A 1 or 1.5 binder is necessary for all of Mr. Alexanders geometry classes.
3. Dividers You will need 3 dividers for your binder.
4. A Protractor and a Ruler We will utilize these tools heavily throughout the course
and you can find these for less than $1 each.
5. A pencil and a pen (no red pens allowed) You have to have your own writing
utensils for this course.
6. Two Spiral Notebooks One for homework and one for daily journals.
7. Loose Leaf College-ruled Paper or Graph Paper Necessary for in class activities

Extra Credit Opportunity for School Supplies:
You can donate the following supplies to Mr. Alexanders classroom and earn up to a total of 30
points of extra credit. Each item listed below is worth 5 points bonus.
Boxes of Kleenex
1 or 1.5 Binders
Packages of dividers for binders
Packages of pens and/or pencils
Rolls of tape and/or staples.

Course Requirements: The following fields will be required for successful completion of the
course.
Attendance and Participation: Your attendance and participation is crucial to being
successful in my class. We do many things that cannot easily be made up outside of
class. Each week you will earn a participation grade taking into account
the students participation, attitude, adherence to the rules and respect
in my classroom.
Binders and Journals: You will keep and maintain an organized folder
for this course. You will also keep a daily journal for warm-ups, math
reviews, and reflections. These are collected at the end of each nine

week grading period.

Projects: There will be many in- and out-of-class projects throughout the course.
Many resources will be provided in class, it may be necessary however for the
student to buy poster boards from the bookstore throughout the school year.
Assignments (Skills Practice): There will be various homework assignments
throughout each unit. Students will be required to keep track of assignments and
grades on a unit organizer for all units. Homework assignments will be checked or
graded daily. Each assignment will be due the day following its assigned date.
Quizzes and Examinations: With each unit, there will be a vocabulary quiz, a midunit quiz, and a unit examination. Vocabulary quizzes are worth 50 points, mid-unit
quizzes are worth 100 points, and exams are worth 200 points.
Grade Determination and Scale: Your grades will be determined based on a weighted scale.
You will be updated on your grades throughout the course via PowerSchool. Assignments
and examinations will be returned graded after two to three class periods.
