GRADING SCALE : Chiefess Kamakahelei
Middle School adheres to a standards-based
grading practice which measures student
proficiency on well-defined course
objectives/standards . Standards based grading
does not base students grades on the following:
homework, formative assessments, ability, extra
credit, participation, neatness, behavior, and
returning forms.
The following scale will be used:
4 advanced. exceeds the learning
objective..A
3 proficient. meets the learning objective.B
2 partially proficientapproaches the learning
objective C
1 novicebelow the learning objectiveD
Grades will be available on www.engrade.com and
updated weekly

Grading: Final grades will be based on the following

categories:
Class work, Activities, & Projects
Class work is designed to help students develop
personally and academically and to ultimately
prepare them for college and a career. There will
be numerous individual and group projects each
quarter. Students will engage in activities
intended to increase the learning process. These
activities include writing assignments, Socratic
Seminars, group problem solving, class projects,
and goal setting.
Tutorials
Students will be graded on each tutorial session.
Students earn points for their questions,
participation, and reflection during the tutorial
process. Since tutorials are a collaborative effort,
students must be present and participate to
receive credit. Tutors will assist students on their
path towards arriving at answers, but they will not
provide the answers for students. Students will be
expected to bring specific questions from their
core classes and work together in groups to solve
them.
Organization skills: Students will be expected
to keep a 3 three ring binder with all the notes
and materials needed in their classes. They are
required to organize their binder according to
AVIDs best practices. Binders will be checked and
graded in the AVID class weekly. Binders will be
graded for organization, Cornell notes, materials
& supplies, a completed daily planner, and daily
to do lists.
Learning Logs: Learning logs provide a
formative assessment of student learning.
Learning logs should be completed regularly. It is
important for students to use complete sentences
and higher level thinking.

Portfolio
Students will collect specified documents to be
placed in a portfolio. Portfolios will be assessed at
the end of each quarter.

Behavior: Students are expected to be working

quietly at all times without disrupting others
under the umbrella of our schoolwide 4Ps:
Be Prompt
Be Prepared
Be Productive
Be Polite
Discipline: Discipline will follow the schools
guidelines: Teacher will directly teach all
classroom expectations to the student.
