Obtain a copy of the job description and evaluation instrument used for evaluating
school administrators. Analyze the correlation between the requirements listed in the job
description and the performance standards of the evaluation. Include copies of the job
description and evaluation and your analysis in your portfolio. (ELCC 5.1)
I obtained a copy of the principal evaluation document and job description from Theresa
Baker, the Coordinator of Human Capital: ESP, A&S, and Employee Relations for
Washington County Public Schools. The first noticeable difference is the difference in
size of the documents. The job description is one (1) page, the evaluation tool is seven
(7).
On the evaluation tool, the professional practice piece is made up of twelve (12)
standards. On the job description the Role Responsibilities section is nine (9) bullet
points. The language is very similar in multiple standards from the evaluation tool and
the role responsibilities from the job description. Some are completely different.
Both documents have the following expectations of the principal:
Manage and Administer the School Operations and Budget in an Effective and
Efficient Manner
The principal evaluation form has the following expectations that are not included on the
job description:
Understand, respond to, and help influence the political, social, economic, legal,
and cultural context of the school community.
The principal job description has the following expectations that are not included on the
principal evaluation
Ensure the success of every student by acting in an ethical manner with integrity
and fairness.
