Cell City Poster

Objective: You will create a cell city blueprint. The poster is due on Tuesday.
Task: Your task is to create a city poster based on either an animal or

plant cell that describes the functions of each organelle within a cell.
Imagine the cell being similar to a small city. Using your creativity and
your knowledge about cell organelles, you will produce a city blueprint
to attract visitors to your "city" or chosen destination. This poster will not
only attract visitors, but it will also serve as an analogy for each of the
cell organelles' functions. Your blueprint should use words and drawn
diagrams that describe the place and motivate tourists to travel there.
Good luck and happy adventures!
Directions:

1. Use textbook, and notes.

2. Decide whether your city will be based on a plant or animal cell.
3. Determine at least 8 major cell organelles that you will describe in
your poster. Make sure that you select the appropriate organelles
according to your cell type (i.e. only plant cells have chloroplasts).
4. Record on your poster:
Type of cell
City Name (make it creative)
8 major cell organelles with correct functions
The city parts must be numbered or lettered
Remember the numbered cell structure must be directly correlated
to the organelle and analogy description on the legend.
The definitions must be in your own words on a separate sheet
attached or behind the poster and only write down what you
understand!
A descriptive table for each of the organelle:
o city part that matches the cell organelle function
o At least 8 major cell organelles accounted
o Analogy description
o

5. Look at the definitions for each cell organelle's function. You will need
to think of analogies that connect the actual functions of the cell to one
of the sites at your city. It is very important that your analogy makes

sense in relation to the cell structure it is supposed to represent. You will

be graded on creativity but also on accuracy!
Analogy Example:
If I were describing a cell to be like a castle, I would describe the gate
around the castle as a double layered wall with guards that patrol and
control who comes in and out. (This would be an analogy for the plasma
membrane).
6. Put your analogies and creative descriptions into a table.
7. Your name, date and section should be on the back of the project.
9. Your project must contain hand drawn pictures to help grab the
attention of your audience. These pictures should reflect what the actual
organelles look like or what their function is in the cell
