Supplies:
3 inch binder (to be used for all subjects), composition notebook (for this class only), pencil,
red pen, notebook paper, TI-83 or TI-84 calculator (also available on student laptop)
Summative Assessments: (70% of six weeks grade)
The summative portion of your grade will be based on a minimum of 3 assessments given periodically
throughout the grading period. These will be announced prior to test day and will assess your mastery of
the content covered during the previous unit.
Students who receive below a 70 on any summative assessment will be required to re-assess. Students
receiving a 70-85 will be allowed to retest if they choose. The maximum grade on any retest is an 85 for
all students. In order to retest, the student must attend two re-teach sessions to clarify concepts and
complete corrections. It is the teachers responsibility to select appropriate materials for the re-teach
sessions. Materials used may differ for each student depending on individual learning needs. The entire
re-teach/re-assess process must be completed within 2 weeks of the original assessment or no reassessment will be allowed.
Formative Assessments: (30% of six weeks grade)
Class work and Homework: Class work and homework will be assigned daily and you are expected to
have it completed by the due date. If work is not turned in on time, students
may be asked to complete an alternate assignment.
Quizzes:

Quizzes will be given and may not be announced. They will be similar to homework and
warm-ups given throughout the unit.

Other:

Notebook checks, warm-ups, and various other assignments may be included in the
formative portion of your grade.

Any late or failed formative assessment must be reassessed within 3 days of the original due date.
The process of reassessment will vary depending on the assignment. If you choose to redo an assignment
you will receive half of the missed points with a maximum grade of an 85.
Make-up Work:
Per district policy, you will be given an additional day for each day of an excused absence to make up any
outstanding work. If you are missing for any UIL or school sponsored activity, you are expected to get
the notes and assignments prior to your absence.
Binders:

School policy requires all students to keep a 3 to 4 inch binder. The math section is to have 3 dividers:
Class notes/handouts, homework and quizzes, and summative assessments. Binders and spirals may be
graded at random times throughout the year. Homework is to be kept until the end of the six weeks.
Summative assessments are to be kept for the entire semester. All work is to be in chronological order.
Note taking:
A composition notebook is required for note taking. Students will be in charge of keeping up with
their interactive student notebook, ISN for short. Your ISN should be brought to class daily and used for
this class only. Each entry should be dated. All notes missed due to absence should be made up. This
notebook will be critical as you review for comprehensive tests throughout the year, especially the
semester exams. Your interactive notebook will be your most valuable tool this year. Notes and new ideas
will be presented in a clear manner that you will be able to use as your own personal how-to guide to
geometry and algebra 2.You will need the skills you learn this year when you take geometry next year. If
maintained well, the ISN will travel with you to 10th grade and be an extremely useful guide as you
review topics that we learn this year.
Cheating:
I expect YOUR best work. Any incidents of cheating will result in disciplinary action. You will also be
required to complete an alternate assignment or test before or after school to receive credit.
