Assignments/Announcements

I post Language Arts and Social Studies activities, objectives and homework daily on a whiteboard in class and on my class
website: mrssklar.weebly.com.
I will also send periodic reminders to any parent/guardian who chooses to join my Remind one-way text messaging account.
Keep reading to learn how to join Remind.
Please develop a habit of writing all of the assignments in your planner. This will help you plan and use your time effectively.
Keep in mind that late homework is your responsibility; teachers will not come to you for missing work.
You are required to have your student planner in class every day and it is YOUR responsibility to copy down all homework,
assignments, and upcoming assessments into your planner so that you can stay organized and on top of your work.

Homework Policy
You can expect some homework nearly every evening. Students that complete ALL their homework grow and succeed in school.
Fifteen to twenty minutes of independent reading should also become part of your nightly routine. Readers are lifelong learners. If
homework and major assignments (such as essays, projects) are not completed on time, detentions may be assigned to complete
missing work.
Late assignments result in a loss of 10% (a drop in one grade). Late assignments will be penalized up to 50% as the year progresses.
Exceedingly late work will not be accepted.

Formative Assessments include independent practice on daily work (may be completed in class), short quizzes, reviews, warm-up
activities, etc. Formative Assessments will account for 35% of the overall grade.
Summative Assessments are major assessments administered to every student in the course. This includes mid-unit assessments
for long units, end of unit assessments, or a major performance task such as: essays, visual representations, multimedia, oral
presentations and other performances. Summative Assessments will account for 60% of the overall grade.
Homework is to be completed regularly and turned in on time. Homework will account for 5% of the overall grade.
Absences
When you return from an absence, check for handouts/assignments in the corresponding weekly folder. Ask a dependable person to
fully explain what you missed. I am happy to work with you after school to answer any questions. You are in middle school now - you
are responsible for making up all assignments, quizzes, and assessments.

Classroom rules must be followed in order to protect the rights of every student to learn and enjoy school. By choosing not to follow
them, your child interfered with those rights.
Please acknowledge receiving this letter by signing your name at the bottom and having your child return it to me tomorrow. If a
detention has been issued, please note whether your child will be walking home or who will be picking them up from school (car rider).
Thank you for your support.
