ADA1OI Summative assignment - Monologue

Guidelines:
1. Perform a monologue which will be 1.5 3 minutes long.
2. What is a monologue?
It is a speech which is written for one actor/actress. It is an opportunity for a character
to share his or her thoughts aloud about a particular topic.
3. Where can you find a monologue?
There a number of books in the classroom which have material in them. Some material
is more suitable for senior students, so please run your monologues by me first to make
sure it is okay to perform.
You may also bring in your own monologue, but you MUST run it by me first!
You MAY NOT WRITE YOUR OWN MONOLOGUE!
4. Choose something you like and not just something which is short. Pick a monologue that
you will enjoy performing or a monologue you can relate to. This will also make it easier
to memorize.
5. Introduce your monologue tell us who you are and what the situation is.
6. You may use props and costumes, but you must stage your piece without them first.
7. Make sure you are not sitting/standing in the same position for your whole scene. USE
YOUR BODY and THE STAGE!!!!!
8. Have a CLEAR ENDING for your monologue freeze in tableau.
9. MEMORIZE YOUR MONOLOGUE! Pick a PROMPTER to give you your lines if you forget
onstage.
10. You will have a ten minute rehearsal slot onstage with Mr. Furmaniuk giving you
feedback. Come prepared!
If you are ill the day you are supposed to perform . . . have a parent call the school and leave a
message for me AND/OR bring a doctors note.

THE SOONER YOU CHOOSE A MONOLOGUE,

THE SOONER YOU CAN GET STARTED MEMORIZING!!!!!
My onstage rehearsal time with Mr. Furmaniuk will be: ________________________________
My final monologue performance will be: ____________________________________________
