ASSESSMENTS
Tests (40% of each grading period): Students will be given a test at the end of each unit. If the amount of information is great,
there may be a test within a unit. The test will be announced at least 2 days in advance and there will be no retest or test
corrections on a unit test.
Quizzes (30% of each grading period): Quizzes will be given OFTEN to encourage students to keep up with their work.
Quizzes will cover a smaller amount of material than a test and are intended to show the students what strengths and weaknesses
they have prior to the test. Some quizzes will cover vocabulary for a particular topic. Most quizzes are announced.
Classwork (20% of each grading period grade): Classwork grades may include notebook checks, projects, Do Now sheets and
group assignments. It is expected that all students will complete classwork assignments to the best of their ability.
Homework (10% of each grading period): Homework assignments will generally be given on a daily basis (approximately 3045 minutes) so that students may practice the objectives they learned in class. It is expected that all students will complete all
homework assignment problems completely and to the best of their ability. We will go over the correct answers and students will
be given an opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback on their assignments prior to the next lesson and/or quiz.
Homework assignments will be checked randomly. The grade is based on effort and NOT accuracy. Late assignments are
NOT accepted!!

TUTORING/MAKE-UP WORK SCHEDULE

I will be available for tutoring and makeup work on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 2:25-3:30. I WILL ANNOUNCE
ANY CHANGES TO MY SCHEDULE!
After an absence or a missed assignment, it is the responsibility of the student to get the missed notes and complete any missed
assignments. All quizzes and tests must be completed during Cougar Time or after school in the presence of Ms. Sarles. If the
absence is a school trip, prior notice needs to be given to the teacher before the absence so that work can be given ahead of time.
Per WCPSS policy, if the make-up work has not been assigned in advance, for absences of one (1) to three (3) days, the student
will have one day for each day absent to complete all missing work. For absences exceeding three (3) days, the student may have
two days for each day absent to make up work.
Expectations and Procedures:
1. BE READY. Students are to be in their seats when the bell rings.
2. BE RESPONSIBLE. I expect all students to bring their notebooks, paper, pencils, calculator, and homework to class
every day.
3. BE RESPECTFUL. There will be daily discussion and activities in class, thus the effectiveness of this class is dependent
upon students' RESPECT for each other, for classroom materials, and for me as their teacher.
4. Students should plan to sharpen pencils, visit the restroom and get water before the tardy bell.
5. During the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes of class, students are not allowed to be outside of the classroom.
Students should not ask for a pass during these times. Students will remain on task for the duration of the class and will
remain in their seats until the bell rings for dismissal.
6. In case of a fire, students will exit the classroom to the right and go down the steps. Exit the building using the doors
under the steps and proceed silently to the parking deck.
7. In case of severe weather, students will exit the classroom and move into the hallway to the right of our classroom.
Students will, face the wall, kneel on the floor, and protect their heads.
8. Be sure to return any items that you may have borrowed during the class period including pencils, rulers, and calculators.
9. All cell phones and electronic devices should be off and away during the class period.
Internet Use Policy
In accordance with Board Policy 2313/3013/4013 and the 21st Century Act (Public Law No: 110:385, Oct. 10, 2008) all students
will be trained annually in Internet safety. School districts are required to educate students about:
Appropriate online behavior, including interacting with other individuals on social networking websites and in chat
rooms.
Cyber bullying awareness and response.
