Basic categories of shaping processes for rubber products are:

Extrusion
Calendering
Coating
Molding and casting

Extrusion
It is the process to provide natural and synthetic rubber material strengthened and shaped
into useful products. It is used to create complex cross sections by compressive and
shearing stress. The method used for extrusion of rubber is screw extruders. It also
reduces the risk of pre-mature cross linking due to the less range of length to diameter
ratio of extruded barrels.
Calendering
It is a process for producing sheet and film stocks by passing rubber stock between two
rotating roll mills.
Coating
It is a process to cover the surface of an object to improve surface properties such as
corrosion resistance, and appearance, extra. It usually involves coating of rubber with
impregnated fabrics.
Molding and casting
Molding is a process to create shapes by casting into molds. There are various types of
molding process as injection molding, transfer molding, and compression molding. Out
of three types of molding, compression molding is most important because of its more
use in manufacturing of tire. It has a ability to mold large, and produce more intricate
parts.
Casting is a process in which heated liquid metals are poured into mold to achieve a
desired shape and then allow to solidify and cool it. The casting used in rubber industry is
dip casting. It is used to produce rubber gloves.
