ELEMENTARY
PHYSICAL EDUCATION POLICIES
Dear Parents:
McAndrew Elementary Physical Education Department would like to welcome all the students to
the new school year. As we go through the school year, I would like your help to encourage a
safe and active life style for your child. I believe a sound body creates a sound mind.
Physical Education is a vital part of your childs educational endeavor. With this in mind, I
would like to take a moment of your time to explain my goals, objectives, procedures, and
discipline plan for the school year.
GOAL
My major goal in physical education is to make each child feel successful. To achieve this goal,
we explore a variety of activities not only to enhance the fitness and skill-related components,
but to have each child develop knowledge, understanding, and positive attitudes concerning
human movement. In addition, I would like to relate ways to help your child stay active and
healthy now and in the future through physical activities and proper nutrition.
OBJECTIVES
The major objective is to create an environment that is safe and fun for every child. To be able
to obtain the major objective, the following class procedures and discipline plan have been
established.
CLASS PROCEDURES
1.
Students will enter and leave quietly.
2.
Students must have a signed note from parents to be excused from class up to three
days. Excuses that are recurring or for longer than 3 days must be authorized by a
doctor.
3.
Students are allowed to take a water and/or restroom break any time during class
except during instruction or when it is time to line up.
4.
Students are encouraged to wear appropriate gym attire. Please ask your child what
day he or she has PE so the proper attire is worn. NOTE: Proper attire consists of
rubber sole shoes and shorts under dresses.
5.
Students must follow all class rules.

GRADE AND CITIZENSHIP PLAN
Each student will receive two grades in PE one grade for performance/participation and the
other for citizenship. Each student will start the grading term with a perfect E/E grade. It is the
students responsibility to keep that grade until the end of that grading period.

Each student must follow proper class and gym rules:

1. Follow class routine
2. Show good sportsmanship
3. No talking when the teacher is talking
4. Take care of the PE equipment
5. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself
6. Participate in class
7. Be respectful to self and others
The performance grade in PE will be based on participation. I expect students to try their best in
class. I want our activities, games, and sports to be positive experiences.
The citizenship grade will be based on the number of marks in their discipline folder received
during the grading period. When a student makes a wrong choice, I will mark it their folder. I
will keep records of these marks. We use this method for daily communication between us and
the students, teachers, and parents. Please check the backside of the weekly calendar sent home
in the folder for any marks or communication from PE.
