The ABC’s of

Second Grade! Dismissal is everyday at 3:25. If students are going to be

picked up a written note must be turned into school.

Attendance: If your child is ABSENT, please call the
office 610-754-9599 to let them know. An excuse
notice, stating the reason for the absence, must be
brought to school within three days to avoid an
unlawful absence.
ART Our class will have a 40 minute art class on
Friday. Students can bring in an art smock/shirt that
can be kept here at school.

Early Dismissal Days will take place on September 30,
October 30, November 23,24,25, December 23, January
27, February 10, 24, March 23, April 1, and June 2,3,6,7.
On Early Dismissal days, students eat lunch and then
are dismissed to the busses at 12:30 PM unless stated
otherwise in district newsletters.

Birthdays If you would like to send a birthday treat
with your child on or near his/her birthday, please feel
free to do so. Birthdays are recognized during our Field Trips Information about field trips will come

Book Orders I will send home Scholastic book order

be made payable to Scholastic Book Clubs. Book
clubs offer books at reduced prices. It's a great way
to build your child's home library!
Gym Our class will have a 40 minute gym class on
Thursday. The children are asked to wear athletic
shoes on gym days.
Homework Students will have some homework in
Second Grade. Homework assignments will vary and
will be sent home in their take home folder. Your
child will be given a weekly homework sheet (inside the
folder) to write assignments in each night.

themselves in the classroom. Please assist your child in
being independent by instructing them on tying their
own shoes.
Newsletter A weekly newsletter will be sent home to
keep you informed about what is happening in second
grade.

on Thursday, September 9th for second grade.

Journals Writing takes place every day in Second

Grade. One way we accomplish this is through writing
in our journals and through writer’s workshop.

Library Our class will visit the library once a week on a
Tuesday. Your child will check out a few books when
we visit the library and return them the following
week. If your child forgets to return the books, they
may not be allowed to check out a new book until the
others are returned.
Lunch Money Our class begins lunch at 11:25. If
lunch money is sent to school, please send it in the
CAMP binder in an envelope marked with your child’s
name.
Recess The students go out every day that the
weather allows, so please have your child dress
appropriately for the temperature. Also, label all your
child’s belongings with his or her name so there is no
confusion or lost items. We do not bring toys from
home to use at recess. Sorry!
Science Our Second Grade science curriculum is
FOSS. This is a discovery based approach with many
hands-on activities. Science units we will be exploring
are Plants, Balance and Motion, and Objects in the
Sky.

Social Studies The Second Grade social studies

curriculum focuses on communities (urban, suburban,
rural), government, and citizenship.
Music The children will have music class on
