A. DESCRIPTION
Welcome to Spanish I. Spanish I is an introductory course which
includes a variety of activities that will help you gain a basic
understanding of the Spanish language and some of the people
who speak it. By the end of this course you will be able to:
1. Recite and pronounce the Spanish alphabet, the days of the
week, colors, and numbers 0 to 100
2. Greet friends and family
3. Tell time
4. Ask for information
5. Describe yourself and others
6. Talk about what you do in school
7. Talk about what you do for fun
8. Talk about the sports you like
9. Describe your favorite foods
10. Describe your family
You can also expect to develop listening, speaking, reading, and
writing skills in order to communicate in Spanish. Throughout
the course you will be introduced to different forms of Hispanic
culture, from everyday life to art and literature.

Realidades 1, Guided Practice for vocabulary and
grammar (Prentice Hall)
C. REQUIRED SUPPLIES
1 ring binder
8 pk dividers
Loose leaf notebook paper
Writing utensils: pencil, pen (black/blue and red), highlighter
Project tools/supplies: I will provide as part of a class
set
Spanish/English dictionary (for your own advantage
and benefit)
Other supplies might be asked for throughout the
course of the year. Notice will be given.

GRADING PLAN

Coursework will be weighted as follows:

Major
40%
Daily
60%
*Daily grades include anything else that its not a major exam or a major project.

EXAMS/ Major Projets:


There will be no more than two exams given every 6 weeks. This
may be a combination of one major exam and one major project
(which is usually the case). You will be responsible for the material
covered in class.

QUIZZES:
Quizzes, Pop quizzes and vocabulary quizzes will be given in class.

Oral and Listening Comprehension:


Students are expected to participate on all oral and listening
comprehension activities we do in class. Students will either
practice with another student while the teacher is supervising the
conversation or have one-on-one conversations with the teacher.

Participation
Participation is a huge part of any foreign language class. In order
to encourage everyone to participate, we will be using the popsicle
stick method.

GENERAL:
Exams, quizzes and homework will be announced during class and
a comprehensive review will be given before every exam.
Tutoring In class review will be presented before exams and
quizzes (except for pop-quizzes). Tutorials will be offered once a
week (Tuesday) or by appointment only. CSA students are
encourage to come for tutoring during stream.

Remind: In an effort to stay connected and up to date on what is
going on in Spanish class, all students and parents are strongly
encourage to sign up to my Remind account. This is the best
communication method for me to use. Through Remind I will
text important announcements, test and quiz reminders. The
information for your class period is located on the very last page
of the syllabus.
