Ch 1-3
-

-We should care about this research because it give us a look into the
things that make us happy and to make sure we are doing it.
It makes me realize that at the end of the day all that matters is that Im
happy, no matter what my career is.
The variable sin the happiness formula are as follows: H is for overall level
of happiness. That is equal to the S, biological set point, plus C, life
conditions, plus V, voluntary activities.
The elements of well-being are Positive emotion, engagement,
relationships, meaning, and achievement. These are important to our
course as they are things that should be fulfilled by the career we decide
on.
-Active and constructive responding refers to the way we react when
people are talking to us, especially when they are telling us something
personal or serious. This applies to class as it tells us to be accepting and
open to what others have to say
-The 3 blessings exercise was good as it showed me how good my life was.
Also, the signature strengths exercise, though tedious, showed me where
my strengths were and what areas/ things I was good at.

Ch 4 and 5
-

This has to do with our level of positivity and happiness. This impacts our
career exploration because it shows us how important finding a career we
love is and that it can have a profound effect on us.
Once we know what our strengths are it is easier to find what type of
careers are better suited for us.
PFA is helpful because it allows you to see how you are personally
flourishing.
Prosperity according to Seligman is rooted in happiness, which is different
from the normal view of prosperity in a lot of ways.

Ch 6 and 7
-

Old/early explanation of character has to do with the way your character


is formed, and how it is different depending on a number of factors.
The elements of intelligence are Speed, The virtue of slowness, executive
function, and rate of learning.
GRIT is the idea that the more time you spend on something, the closer
you will get to your goal. People with high GRIT are often more successful.
Strengths, which points out areas where you excel. Emotional fitness,
points out how your emotional well-being is. Social fitness, points out how
you feel about your community and job. Spiritual fitness points out how
you look at the meaning behind what youre doing. And family fitness
looks at how your relationship is with your family.

Learning about GRIT taught me how important it is to be diligent and


hardworking and to the stick to the task in front of me. That by doing this I
will be more likely to be successful.

Ch 8 and 9
-

The 5 elements to PTG are: Understand the response to trauma, anxiety


reduction, self-disclosure, creating a trauma narrative and life principles
and stances that are more robust to challenge
Mental toughness is being able to separate the adversity from other things
in your life. Having mental toughness allows us to keep going even when
bad things happen to us.
Skill building dimensions are when we look for the good in others. This
helps undergraduates because it allows them to see how others can be
successful and beneficial to them.
Optimism is helpful because it causes people to be more mentally and
physically healthy. They act on medical advice and take action to avoid
bad events which causes them to be healthier.

Ch 10
-

Wealth can make you happy, to a point. But once you reach a certain
amount, making more money isnt going to improve your happiness.
When you do something that makes you happy, the amount of money you
make wont matter, except the job you are doing. Therefore, if you are
doing something you love, you will be happier.
Find the job you love, it may take a while, but it will be worth it.
They realize that their very first job might not be the one and that it can
take time, but being patient is worth it to find the career that truly makes
you happy.
