The importance of money in education, science and technology.
It is well known that education is a passport to the future that favors not only the individual who benefits directly from it, if not the community where that individual is native, his or her country and society in general. Why? Because education is necessary in every way, it is necessary to level the economic and social inequalities; to access higher levels of employment; to raise the cultural conditions of the population; to expand opportunities for young people; for the promotion of science, technology and innovation. Thus education is the first link in a chain that leads us to move the world. However, there is something determining that allows quality levels of education in a society: investment.
Investing in education for a country means everything said before and it is precisely what the governments of the world powers have done to position their respective nations where they are now. Countries such as Finland, Sweden, Japan and South Korea, to name a few, are pioneers of our time in education that have implemented plans to engage the first link in the chain of development and thus achieve better quality life for each of its inhabitants.
In Mexico and many other countries, the situation is contrasting. Our country spends only 0.4% of its GDP on research and development, a percentage that places it in the last place among the nations belonging to the OECD **. Moreover, almost two-thirds of Mexico's working-age population obtain their livelihood on the street **, which represents a gap in the level of education and employment opportunities.
I think countries like Mexico and other developing nations should start acting the way in which those countries that at one time were in the same circumstances or acted worse than ours, so as to achieve wholeness as a state. That is why our government, observing what happens in the world, should see the education budget as a real investment that would bring, as already proven results, solutions to each of the problems what facing our country.
We. as young people, must also do our part to not waste this opportunity we have to study, on the contrary, we should play in favor of it, fulfill our professional goals and we benefit ourselves, our families, our communities and our countries.
