CLUB DESCRIPTION
The Science Honors Society (SHS) is an Agoura High School science-tutoring program. Its mission is to help
promote an appreciation for the sciences and academic excellence in this pursuit. It was founded in May of
2013 by Lucinda Laurence, Iliana Zisman and Charlotte Laurence.
ARTICLE I
Purpose
Section 1. This society shall educate any student who wishes to expand their scientific knowledge, and it shall
not deny help to any student.
Section 2. Those who wish to tutor shall develop the skills to teach and work well with their peers.
ARTICLE II
Affiliation with the AHS Science Department
Section 1. The Science Department may make any changes, to and regarding, SHS.
Section 2. Members of SHS shall obey the Science Departments orders.
ARTICLE III
Members Requirements
Section 1. Members must receive at least a B- in each semester of their most recently completed AHS
Honors/AP/IB science course (or course in which they wish to tutor), or at least an A- in their most recently
completed semester of a College Preparatory course (or course in which they wish to tutor). Qualified
applicants will be accepted.
Section 2. All members must sign and adhere to a contract stating that:
A. They must tutor a minimum of once a week to secure membership.
B. They will respect the tutoring classroom, advisors, officers, and their fellow tutors at all times.
Failure to do so will result in immediate suspension from SHS.
Section 3. The SHS Officers may accept applicants at the beginning of Second Semester to replace those
whose applications have been revoked.
ARTICLE IV
Tutoring Sessions
Section 1. Tutoring sessions will be held Monday through Friday during Support in room B4.
ARTICLE V
Officers
Section 1. Officers will remain in their position for a term of on year. Every Spring, the positions of President,
Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer shall be elected by the members of SHS. An officer may only be
relieved from his or her duties if the other officers unanimously vote in favor of impeachment. In this case, an
election will take place to select a new officer from the existing SHS tutors.
ARTICLE VI
Advisor
Section 1. The SHS advisor is Ms. Naomi Elman. Ms. Naomi Elman shall regulate room B4.
Section 2. An advisor must approve all SHS announcements, forms, flyers, posters, fundraisers, and any other
activity.
ARTICLE VII
Fundraisers
Section 1. Two thirds of the officers and commissioners, in addition to the Science Department, must consent
to a fundraiser before it may be implemented.
Section 2. A company may sponsor a fundraiser.
A. The company must be approved by the science department.
B. SHS will name their event after the sponsoring company.
Section 3. All money gained from the fundraiser shall go towards SHS and the Agoura High School Science
Department.
ARTICLE VIII
Application Process
Section 1. An application process shall be conducted at the beginning of the school year. Informational
meetings will be held to explain the process.
Section 3. Application forms shall be distributed to the counseling office and all science teachers. Additionally,
officers shall carry application forms.
Section 4. Students shall return a completed application forms to an officer or advisor by the specified date. No
late applications will be accepted.
Section 6. Applicants with the a B both semesters in an AP/Honors/IB or an A in a both semesters of their
most recent College Preparatory class (or the subject in which they wish to tutor) shall be accepted.
Section 7: Each accepted member must pay $5 in order to fund for club activities.
ARTICLE IX
Affiliation With The Science National Honor Society
Section 1. Agoura High School is a chapter of the Science National Honor Society.
Section 2. Members of SHS with certain qualifications may become members of the Science National Honor
Society.
Section 3. Membership for a student in the SNHS is conferred during the last two years of secondary school
education. A student must have and maintain a 3.0 grade point average (4.0 scale) to be a member. In addition,
the following qualifications must be met and maintained:
A. A member must be enrolled in at least one honors or upper level science class during or prior to the
eleventh grade year.
B. A member must be enrolled in at least one second year honors or upper level science class during
or prior to the twelfth grade year.
C. If second year honors or upper level science courses are not offered by the school, then the student
must be enrolled in a second first year honors or upper level science class during or prior to the
twelfth grade year.
D. A member must maintain a B+ average (3.5 on a 4.0 scale) across all science courses.

ARTICLE X
Finances
Section 1. The treasurer shall be responsible for all things relating to SHS funding.
Section 2. The SHS account number shall be 345.
Section 3. All SHS-related checks must be made out to Agoura High School.
ARTICLE XI
By-Laws
Section 1. All bylaws must be established by a majority of club membership.
