Dalhousie Gazette Art Director

The Dalhousie Gazette Publishing Society is looking to hire an Art Director for the 201516 publishing year (October 5, 2015 to April 6).The Art Director is responsible for laying
out and designing the Gazettes print edition each week. Responsibilities include:
planning, developing and assisting in the design of the Gazettes presentation
providing design services in collaboration with editorial staff
communicating and coordinating with printers on schedule
The Art Director is a member of the Gazette's paid staff. They must be available for inoffice consultation between the hours of 12 p.m. on Monday and 6 p.m. on Tuesday of
every production week.
Having received content from the Gazettes Editor-in-chief and Advertising Manager, the
Art Director lays out and designs the print edition of the Gazette each week.
The Art Director is expected to communicate with reasonable frequency with all staff
regarding layout and design duties. The Art Director should be skilled in Adobe
InDesign. Ideally, they have experience laying out and designing print publications. A
familiarity with the Dalhousie Gazette is an asset, although is not required.
The Art Director does not have to be a Dalhousie student, however preference will be
given to current students. King's Journalism students are encouraged to apply. Potential
candidates will be contacted for an interview. Resums should be submitted to William

The best resums will include both a cover letter detailing a passion and a vision for
newspaper design as well as clippings showcasing the candidates ability as a designer.
The Dalhousie Gazette is a student-run newspaper based in Halifax, Nova Scotia on the
campus of Dalhousie University. It is the oldest campus paper in Canada, published
since 1868. We publish stories significant to people both on-campus and in the wider
Halifax community.
