Geography Presentation & Individual Assessment: Judge Better Best

During our discussions in Geography, we came up with Criteria for Judgement

regarding selecting a vacation destination.
As a class, you came to a consensus and created Criteria for Judgement and narrowed
it down to the top 5 look fors. You then ranked the criteria and were able to
determine where you would go on a vacation.

We broke out into groups and the task changed. You were asked whether the same
criteria would be suitable for judging a place to Immigrate to. Your response as a
class was a resounding NO! So, within your groups, you came up with your own
criteria for judgement. Slowly, groups merged together until the whole class was in
agreement on these 5 ranked criteria:

Judging Good, Better, Best

Medical Care
SafetyLow Disease, Crime Rate, Natural Disasters
Rights & Freedoms
Low Pollution (Fresh Air/Clean Water)
Stable Economy/Access to Jobs

Each group has been assigned two locations to research:

Population
Crime Rate
Seasons

Weather conditions (average high/low,

natural disasters that are prevalent)
Environmental Features

System of Government
Unemployment Rate
Common Illness/Disease

Infant Mortality Rate

Life Expectancy

Your group must use their Criteria for Judgement, to decide which of the two locations would make
the best choice for your group to immigrate to. You will create a presentation that includes all of the
researched information and if the Criteria for Judgement is used correctly, the rest of the class should
come to the same conclusion.
Success Criteria:

Research is complete for both countries

Each group member will have contributed to the research
Each group member will have a role in the presentation
Audiovisual aids are used appropriately and enhance the points that are being made
The group came to a consensus based on the criteria as to which country is the better choice
Presenters speak clearly, give eye contact to audience, do not lean or look bored while others
are doing their part and are not constantly reading off of the screen or a script

Individual Assessment
Each group member will be responsible for handing in a one-page response to the following question:
How might the elements of a specific environment impact or influence my choice to either live, visit or
leave there?
