Welcome:
We
are
gathered
here
today,
in
the
liturgical
season
of
Lent
to
reflect
on
Jesus
sacrifice,
life,
crucifixion,
death
and
resurrection.
We
remember
Jesus
sacrifice
of
forty
days
in
the
desert
[scoop
a
handful
of
sand
and
release
sand
through
fingers].
Today,
we
observe
the
forty
days
of
Lent
by
resisting
temptation
and
growing
closer
to
God.
Lent
is
a
time
for
prayer,
fasting
and
almsgiving.
Gathering
Hymn:
40
Days
and
40
Nights
White
Light
Sign
of
the
Cross:
In
the
name
of
the
Father,
and
of
the
Son
and
of
the
Holy
Spirit.
Opening
Prayer:
We
are
bound
by
the
lack
of
time.
We
are
bound
by
fear
of
the
future.
We
are
bound
by
the
limitation
of
poor
health.
We
are
bound
by
poverty.
We
are
bound
by
our
grief.
We
are
bound
by
our
addictions.
God
of
Freedom,
you
remove
all
that
holds
us
bound
into
patterns
of
death
and
breathe
new
life
into
every
worn-out
soul.
We
cry
to
you
for
release
from
all
that
binds
us.
Roll
away
the
stones
that
block;
loosen
the
tightness
of
our
lives;
call
us
forth
from
the
tombs
of
our
despair
into
the
newness
of
life.
We
ask
this
prayer
in
the
name
of
your
Son,
Jesus,
who
is
the
life
of
the
world.
Amen.

Matthew
17:1-8
A
reading
from
the
Gospel
according
to
Matthew.
Six
days
later,
Jesus
took
with
him
Peter
and
James
and
his
brother
John
and
led
them
up
a
high
mountain,
by
themselves.
And
he
was
transfigured
before
them,
and
his
face
shone
like
the
sun,
and
his
clothes
became
dazzling
white.
Suddenly
there
appeared
to
them
Moses
and
Eljah,
talking
with
him.
Then
Peter
said
to
Jesus,
Lord,
it
is
good
for
us
to
be
here;
if
you
wish,
I
will
make
three
dwellings
here,
one
for
you,
one
for
Moses,
and
one
for
Eljah.
While
he
was
still
speaking,
suddenly
a
bright
cloud
overshadowed
them,
and
from
the
cloud
a
voice
said
This
is
my
Son,
the
Beloved;
with
him
I
am
well
pleased;
listen
to
him!
When
the
disciples
heard
this,
they
fell
to
the
ground
and
were
overcome
by
fear.
But
Jesus
came
and
touched
them,
saying
Get
up
and
do
not
be
afraid.
And
when
they
looked
up,
they
saw
no
one
except
Jesus
himself
alone.

Prayer:
Gracious
God,
ever
true
to
your
covenant,
as
your
Spirit
sent
Jesus
into
the
wilderness,
so
you
call
us,
your
people,
into
the
desert
of
Lent.
Bring
us
through
these
forty
days
in
the
power
of
Christs
victory.
May
we
be
touched
again
by
your
call
to
change,
and
have
the
strength
to
put
aside
what
is
not
essential
in
our
lives
and
entrust
ourselves
completely
to
you.
We
ask
this
through
Christ,
who
lives
and
reigns
with
you
and
the
Holy
Spirit,
God
forever
and
ever.
Amen.
Reflection:
We
hear
of
Jesus
being
in
the
wilderness
of
the
desert.
Sometimes
in
life,
we
can
be
selfish.
We
may
have
a
lack
time
to
do
things
in
our
day.
We
may
have
addictions.
We
may
have
uncertainty
about
our
future.
From
Jesus
stories,
we
are
reminded
that
we
can
be
so
much
more
than
whom
we
already
are.
During
the
season
of
Lent,
we
are
reminded
to
repent
and
turn
away
from
selfishness
to
improve
ourselves
and
our
relationship
with
God.
What
do
you
want
to
turn
away
from
during
Lent?
Action:
We
will
now
think
of
our
dreams
for
Lent.
(bows
head,
20
second
silence).
Today,
we
will
give
our
dreams
wings
by
making
a
Lenten
promise.
On
the
butterfly
card,
write
a
Lenten
promise
that
you
will
make
and
keep
during
the
season
of
Lent.
Your
teacher
will
hang
these
up
in
your
classroom
to
remind
you
to
keep
your
promise
during
Lent.

May
Gods
Word
be
in
our
hearts
and
fill
us
with
lasting
joy.
Amen.
May
we
walk
in
Gods
ways,
always
knowing
what
is
right
and
good.
May
almighty
God
bless
us
and
the
Father,
and
the
Son,
and
the
Holy
Spirit.
Amen.
Nourished
by
Gods
Word,
go
in
peace
to
love
and
serve.
Thanks
be
to
God.
