RADIOGRAPHER
Radiographers perform a wide variety of
diagnostic x-ray procedures, including
examinations of the skeletal system, the chest
and abdomen.
They also assist the radiologist,
during more complex
radiographic procedures.

TYPICAL WORK DAY


Surgery/OR:

Technologists work in surgical suites assisting


the surgeons with visualizing anatomy and locating specific organs.
Sterile procedure.

ER: Trauma exams depend on hospitals level rating 1-5


ICU: Critical care patients
Portables: Throughout the hospital
NICU: Newborn intensive care
Scheduled Exams: Fluoroscopic examinations (UGI, BE,
IVP, Myelo, Lumbar Puncture, Arthro, etc)

RADIOGRAPHER
Radiographers must demonstrate an
understanding of human anatomy, physiology,
pathology and medical terminology.

RADIOGRAPHER
Radiographers must maintain knowledge about
radiation protection and safety.

RADIOGRAPHER
Radiographers are the primary liaison between
patients and radiologists and other members of
the health care team.
They must remain sensitive to the physical and
emotional needs of the patient through good
communication, patient assessment, patient
monitoring and patient care skills.
Radiographers use professional and ethical
judgment and critical thinking when
performing their duties.

RADIOGRAPHER
Quality improvement and customer service
allow the radiographer to be a responsible
member of the health care team by continually
assessing professional performance.

RADIOGRAPHER
Radiographers embrace continuing education
for optimal patient care, public education and
enhanced knowledge and technical competence.

Starts once a year, in Fall Semester


4 full semesters and one Summer term.
Evening program, only on even numbered years
A.A.S. or A.S. Degree

The Application Requirements


Follow the admission process
Complete prerequisite classes
Take the HESI (Health Education Systems,
Incorporated) test
Obtain Immunizations and CPR certification
Complete a Background Check
Write a 1 page essay about work or volunteerism
in a healthcare environment
Top candidates will go through an interview
process

Then choose (r) in the a-z index
Click on Radiography
Click on admission criteria.

PREREQUISITES
MATH 1010 with a C or better, or MATH 1050
(which must be taken if AS degree is wanted)
ENGL 1010 with a C or better grade
BIOL 1610/1615 with a C or better
BIOL 2320/2325 with a B- or better, taken within
the past five years
RADS 1010 with a C or better

What to expect at school


School 2 days a week
Clinical rotations 3
days a week at a local
hospital/clinic
Clinical labs at the
school 2 times a
semester
AND OCCASIONAL NAP TIME IF NEEDED

STUDENTS WILL DO ALL OF THEIR CLINICAL HOURS


AT LOCAL HOSPITALS WHERE THEY WILL LEARN
THE PROPER TECHNIQUES AND SKILLS IN ORDER
TO PERFORM THE X-RAYS CORRECTLY TO REDUCE
PATIENT EXPOSURE
