In the beginning...
Friday, February 08, 2008
My sister Anna and I decided to join forces and start our own business in late 2007.
Being new(ish) mums, we thought our own business would be the perfect way to earn a
living, unleash our creative urges and most importantly, allow us to spend time with our
babies. We have a passion for children's clothing and accessories, and will soon be
creating a label of our own, Ivy Designs! Watch this space :)

Ideas
Saturday, May 03, 2008
In the past few months our ideas book has been filling up with lots of designs! There has
been much cutting, sewing, sampling and testing going on...not to mention the sweat and
tears (our own). The best designs will make it to our shop, hopefully by July. Luckily we
have our own little models to test on, so customers know that the items will withstand the
demands of real little people!

We are excited to see how people take to our first range!

In the meantime, Ivy (now 7 months) has cut two teeth! Ouch! Lots of dribble.

Photo Shoot
Monday, June 16, 2008
We had our first photo shoot last week. It was fun, tiring
and a big learning curve! What do they say about working
with children??? All in all, it was a good day. Lots of
smiles and a few wee tears (nothing a feather duster
couldn't fix - see pic) Our good friend Ron took the photos
for us. You must see his gorgeous photos at
http://www.beautifulwest.com.au/ Thanks Ron! Some
behind the scenes shots below.

Baby Shower
Saturday, June 21, 2008
Today I attended a lovely baby shower for my beautiful friend, Danielle. The mother-to-be
was gorgeous and glowing, a yummy mummy indeed :) Danielle and Carl are expecting a
baby girl, bless. My gift included a book called Gallop by Rufus Butler Seder. I loved it the
minute I saw it! The book uses technology called scanimation, where each page brings
animals to life with images that literally moves. Scanimation is a six-phase animation
process that combines the "persistence of vision" principle with a striped acetate overlay
to give the illusion of movement. Even hubbie liked it! I also bought bub some Bonds
clothing, great basics. The baby shower was good fun, we played a peg game and some
quizzes. I received a cute little cookie cutter set as a favour. Posted by ivy designs at

Etsy shop opening

Wednesday, June 25, 2008
For those of you who have not heard of Etsy, you don't know what you are missing out
on! In a nutshell, it is an online marketplace where people buy and sell handmade goods.
There are some absolutely amazing things for sale, so many talented people out there. I
10 have bought my fair share of things! Well, today we have put up our first couple of
listings! Yay! Setting up a shop on etsy is quite a time consuming process for beginners,
but we hope to have a lot of our items up soon. Please visit our shop at
www.ivydesigns.etsy.com A big shout out to seller 'bearcengic' - thanks for doing a great
job with the photos! While we are at it, thanks also to our good friend Justin for all the

Tula Pink - wow!

Monday, June 30, 2008
Yes, we are excited about Tula Pink's new line of fabric, Flutterby. The colours and
patterns are just divine! The Flutterby series draws inspiration from nature, with
butterflies, ladybugs and flowers. Pictured above is our 'Chelsea' dress available in red or
blue, which comes with a matching hair clip. We've received lots of lovely comments
about this unique dress.

'Bloom Tunic' available in pink or green ladybugs

Made it is Australia's answer to Etsy (more on Etsy below). Ivy Designs have a few items
for sale on this site. Our 'Amelia' top is proving to be a great seller. One of our lovely
customers said "I recently purchased one of their geisha white singlets. I was thrilled with
the quality and the little crochet details on the shoulders was superb quality. Beautifully
packaged with a nice note inside and express posted to boot! thanks again Ivy Designs, I
definately will be back!". Awwww...thanks... http://www.ivydesigns.madeit.com.au/

Etsy Treasury
Thursday, July 24, 2008
I created my first Etsy Treasury! Anyone who knows about the Treasury knows how hard
it is to get one of these spots! What is a Treasury? This is what they say...

"The Treasury is a member-curated gallery of short-lived lists of 12 hand-picked items

each (plus four alternates). It functions as a high-demand (and pretty!) promotional tool
that many devoted Etsians fight to get. Members can feature their favorite items, items
selected on a theme, or just however they like. The Treasury is not intended for self-
promotion, but instead to acknowledge and share the many cool things for sale on
Etsy..."

What was my theme? Babylove, surprise, surprise...

new range of handmade hair candy
Our website is up and running and ready to go! We still have our Etsy store, but there is
now a wider range in our Online Boutique. There are lots of exciting new styles in the
pipeline - dresses, tops, bloomers, jackets, trousers... so make sure you drop by again to
check out what is new! We have a few large orders to get out in the next couple of weeks,
so excuse us if we're not around much. We'll be buried under mountains of fabric and
thread in the studio (also affectionately known as the 'sweatshop'!)

With the whole extended household struck down with the flu for the past week, we
haven't been able to do as much work as usual. We did, however, manage to finish a big
overseas order. Hoorah! It's heading to Singapore for a mother's group (lovely customer

Ever since we were little, Anna and I have adored magazines (it's little wonder I ended up
working in publishing). We used to spend all of our pocket money on glossies...and not
much has changed! One of our favourite mags is Shop 4 Kids (Shop Till You Drop), so
you can imagine how thrilled we are to have some of our products featured in this
month's edition!!! Very exciting for a small label like ours. Items featured include a
bracelet, hair candy and a Russian Doll singlet.

Tucker created 'Ivy' for us. Such fun seeing a character come to life! Ivy also has a little

Happy Anniversary!
Monday, August 18, 2008
Hubbie and I celebrated our wedding anniversary last week. I had a good excuse to
splurge on a big bunch of cherry blossoms to mark the occassion, as they were the
theme to our wedding two years ago. Incidently, Ivy's middle name (Mai) also means
cherry blossom. Yes, I am a big fan of these beautiful flowers. I would love to travel to
Japan one day, for the cherry blossoms...and the fabrics!

Recent Etsy Purchase...

Monday, September 08, 2008
I have bought a lot of things from Etsy (got to support indie sellers!) and here is the latest
purchase... two hand screenprinted cushions from joom. These cushions are for my best
friend and her new husband (two very creative people). They have a lovely sunroom filled
with assorted cushions and I think these will make a delightful addition to the already
creative setting.

annually, it is loaded with the latest children’s fashion, accessories and homewares. The
photoshoots are always stunning! The spring/summer issue came out today and we
couldn't wait to get our hands on it as usual, but this time we are actually featured inside!

Ivy's milestones...this week!

Wednesday, September 10, 2008
Ivy has surprised us with lots of new things she has learnt. In the past week she has
been able to pick up the phone (or remote control) and say "heyo", she also says "heyo"
and waves, she has perfected her crawling technique (moves across the room in 13
seconds!), plays peek-a-boo from behind the chair, kisses with "mwah"...and yesterday
she showed us how she can eat with a spoon! It is truly amazing to watch your child grow
and pick up new things. Life is full of wonderful surprises everyday!

My baby is turning ONE soon!

Wednesday, September 10, 2008
The year has just flown by! Normally I create custom invites using sites like vistaprint or
similar, but with such limited time these days I went with pre-printed invites from Paper
Eskimo. We have decided to do something a bit low key and casual for the celebration
and will be having a picnic in Sydney's Centennial Park. Hope it's a nice day! Will have to
think of some wet weather plans.

Phew! Biggest order to date done

Tuesday, September 16, 2008
It's taken us quite a number of weeks, but we finally finished our biggest order to date. It
was definitely a challenge to produce so many items and work around our babies, but
we're very happy with the results. We can't name any names yet, since the store hasn't
launched just yet, but we are excited to announce that they will be one of our exclusive
online stockists. We will keep you posted! All I can say is pheeeew (a big exhale!).

Happy first birthday Ivy!

Tuesday, September 23, 2008
We celebrated Ivy's first birthday with a picnic by the pond, in Sydney's Centennial Park
on the weekend. The weather was gorgeous, although it did reach 33 degrees at one
stage and I was a bit flustered by all the activity! It's been a full on year - not only did I
have a baby, I also moved house and started Ivy Designs! A holiday is beckoning. Any
parent will tell you that the initial year of having a baby is not easy, but when you get that
first smile, kiss or hug, all your struggles disappear (for that moment anyway!). Viewing
the world through the eyes of a child is an amazing thing.

Patting a dog for the first time. Ivy's word for dog is "doh doh".

A tired birthday girl

I am no Martha Stewart when it comes to baking, but here are my birthday cupcakes!
Chocolate with fresh cream, white chocolate flakes, fresh strawberries and of course,
hundreds and thousands for effect!

New outfit - personal project

Wednesday, September 24, 2008
I made this outfit for my friend's two year old, her birthday is around the corner. The fabric
is a lovely cotton lawn, really soft and floaty. It's perfect for the hot summer coming up!
The pattern is based on the the "drawstring dresses" that we have in the shop, except
this is a top with matching bloomers. I found this great tutorial for the fabric flower and
just added more petals... fabric tutorial

Saturday, September 27, 2008
It was another hot weekend in Sydney...and another 1st first birthday to celebrate! Our
close friends had a lovely party at their place for their son's special day. Great weather,
good friends, superb food and a happy little boy - we couldn't have asked for more. The
cake was amazing!

Life is a balancing act

Tuesday, September 30, 2008
I often get asked, "how do you manage to run a business and look after a baby?". Well,
the answer is simple...it's a balancing act - on a tightrope! I will be the first to admit that I
have had my fair share of mini meltdowns. It has been a real challenge to look after a
baby, keep the household in order (housework, bills etc), start/run a business and get
some sleep. So far, things are working but sometimes I do feel like I am about to fall off
that tightrope. For me, the most important things are: Having a supportive partner; being
as organised as possible (my to-do list is massive!); and prioritising. I always try to
remember too, that babies grow up so fast and to cherish the time with them. Family
comes first...sometimes the laundry can wait! I read a forum post today on Etsy, which
was an excellent read for someone like myself - a working stay at home mum. I really am
not alone! Etsy forum

Eeeek...
Tuesday, October 21, 2008
You may have noticed that my blog now looks a little strange and plain...well, that is my
fault for playing around with the settings. No matter what I did, I couldn't enable the
comments and so silly me, I tried to do a few things with the html code. Instead, I totally
wiped out everything that was designed for me :(

Trying to contact the Blog Dr now (aka my web designer). Oops.

Update: I managed to restore some things but my comments still do not work! The html
code says comments blocked. If anyone can help please email me on

Ivy's first time at the beach

Wednesday, October 22, 2008
Whilst I was madly sewing at home, hubbie took Ivy to the beach for the first time. As
you can see, she was a bit hesitant at first but slowly got used to the idea of the sand.
Although it was a hot day in Sydney, the cold water freaked her out and she screamed for
all of Bondi to hear! They walked along the coast, viewing the annual Sculpture By The
Sea exhibition, some pics below.

Blast from the past
Wednesday, October 22, 2008
I had a nice little surprise the other day. Hubbie decided to tidy some of our things in
storage at my mother's place and came across an old cross stitch I did in 1993, as a
teenager. It was unloved and dusty. He cleaned it up, took it to the framers and
presented it to me all wrapped up as a present! How sweet! I remember working tirelessly
on this project, counting all those tiny crosses! I must have had so much time on my
hands back then...

Russian Doll Revival
Wednesday, November 12, 2008
Unless you have been hiding under a rock for the past year or so, you would have
noticed a Russisan Doll revival! (also known as Matryoshkas, nesting dolls and
babushkas). In the last few months we have sold a whole heap of our tops with the
Russian Doll brooch. Well, my fixation with these cute characters have not abated and I
finally purchased some fabric from the amazingly talented Kristen Doran. Kristen is a
Sydney based textile and fashion designer. Kristen's creations are awe inspiring and her
blog is a fascinating read for any fabric lover! Look out for an upcoming interview on this
blog with Kristen soon. Shortly, I will present you with an interview I did with another
successful (and super creative) business woman, Kara Smith! I have coveted her bags
since I first laid eyes on them nearly two years ago.
Posted by ivy designs at 10:52AM (+11:00)

Interview with Kara Smith - creator of delicious

handbags!
Wednesday, November 12, 2008
Based in the beautiful Blue Mountains of NSW Australia, Kara Smith is a familiar face in
the indie designer scene. Kara is not only known for her unique range of handbags, but
also for her business success. Here she takes the time out to speak to Ivy Designs about
her self titled accessories label.

You have a background in Graphic Design. How did you make the leap to fabulous
handbag designer?

I have been a graphic designer (and still work as a designer

www.design.karasmith.com.au) for 15 years. I was getting a little tired of always working
for someone else but have had a fantastic career living all over Australia and designing in
Sydney (home town), Darwin, Alice Springs and Brisbane. I have always had a love of
vintage things and am a bit mad about 2nd hand shopping. My family has a long history
with 2nd hand clothing, and it’s all we have had growing up. I had collected a lot of
vintage fabrics but wasn’t sure what I’d ever do with them, as I wasn’t really the sewing
type. I finally got a pattern to make a bag and started carrying the bag around. This got
quite a few queries - “where did you get that bag?” So I started making them for others as
gifts or minor sales, practising and getting the bags right.I started up a really bodgy little
website and was amazed at the response it was getting. Then wholesale enquiries
started coming in so I finally decided to take the plunge and get into it full-time.Graphic
design to handbag design is actually not that big a leap. With my experience in
packaging, I could easily create bag templates digitally and change things to suit what I
like. All the website design, marketing and corporate id is created by me too (which can
be expensive for any new business starting up).

How does your typical day begin and end?

I’m embarrassed to say as I am a workaholic! I start at about 6am, eating breakfast at the
computer while I check emails. I like to respond to people quickly, ensuring orders and
queries are fulfilled as people really appreciate this. Being an online business really
19
means that you have to be available all the time, so the weekends are online as well
(though I do have a life!). I usually finish up about 6-7pm, getting orders ready to send the
next day, and finalising any of my paperwork. Being a one-man band is very time-
consuming!

What kind of woman carries a Kara Smith handbag?

I have been surprised at the array of women (and men buying gifts for partners) carrying
my bags. The age varies but generally its 28-45 yr olds who really appreciate having
something a little different to the main stream. These women come from all over
Australia, not just the big cities – and also internationally, especially the US. Some
women actually collect them – women who have an appreciation for unique fabrics and
finishes. So much so, there are women with 10-20 of my clutches out there in their
wardrobes!

You recently won some great business awards. Any advice for newbies (like myself) to
the world of small business?

Some people say “you are lucky”. It’s not luck at all, it’s bloody hard work! I was just
overwhelmed to win 2 business awards: New Business and Home-based Business in the
Blue Mountains Business Awards. The competition was fierce, with very established
shops and businesses up against me. I thought I wouldn’t stand a chance. But the judges
thought my business showed the most promise in it’s substance, ideals and
environmental stance. It’s corny to say it – but believe in yourself. Never stop working and
never give up on your idea. Be protective of it as you will get a lot of advice to do
something different. I find this advice is usually from people that are unhappy in their job
so say ‘thanks’ politely and shelve it.You need to be involved in everything you can
including your local business network, go to as many free seminars or workshops that
your State runs for Small Business. Ask lots of questions, get an accountant, network
with other designers and form great relationships so you can help eachother. It’s
wonderful to be able to ring or email other designers when it’s all getting a bit tough –
everyone is in the same boat and can boost your spirits quickly or lend an ear to a new
idea.

You use vintage fabrics and buttons. How important is sustainable design to you?

Very important! If I didn’t commit to creating bags and scarves out of vintage and recycled
fabrics, buttons and buckles, I would just be another bag brand. My bags are unique, they
cannot be copied, and are for the woman who appreciates having something not mass-
produced. Even the interiors of my bags are recycled. There is so much waste out there
and some of it is of exceptional quality. As I have grown up in the 2nd hand clothing
industry (my Mother has sold 2nd hand clothes for over 25 years at Sydney markets) we
see the incredible stuff people consider ready to dump. Just because a button is missing,
a little bit of rust stain on a jacket, etc – it’s funny how people don’t know how to sew,
darn or clean items. Our society is becoming incredibly disposable, and this is not
sustainable for our future.

What is your all time favourite bag from your range?

It’s hard to say... It changes all the time! I like the bigger bags so for me the 10tote range
or x-large is more my style. The 10totes have become a popular baby bag choice and
that’s something I look forward to using with my first baby soon. It’s usually the fabrics that
20
win me over – if it’s a 1950’s barkcloth, in any shape, it wins hands down! What’s in store
for the future of Kara Smith?

With our first baby due in early January 2009 my focus will be on my family for a while. I
have two lovely local women in the Blue Mountains that help me sew, which I am so
happy about as it puts money back into my local community. This will continue as I won’t
be able to dedicate the time to sewing but will be able to create new designs.I also create
unique scarves (sold out currently) – which will be out again in time for winter. These are
just fabulous with a big overcoat and can change the look of any outfit. I’d say baby bags
might grow as I learn what is required in one! I create 10totes for mothers with bubs now.
My partner, Steven, wants me to create his very own ‘masculine’ baby bag too! Kara's

Kristen Doran
Thursday, November 20, 2008
Clothing, textiles, accessories, stationary, toys, graphics... The hugely talented designer,
Kristen Doran, has done it all! Based in Sydney Australia, Kristen is also the author of the
book "Crafts to Inspire". Kristen's fabric prints are immensely popular and it isn't hard to
see why...I for one, can't wait to get my hands on the "Drummer Boys". I wanted to find
out more about Kristen, so I asked her a few questions... You studied Fashion and
Graphic Design. After your studies, how did your career progress to where it is now?
I worked for a Fashion manufacturer for 4 years doing storyboards and textile designs.
Then I worked for a charity for 2 years as a graphic designer. Next... 2 kids. Then to keep
myself in the creative mode I started making handbags for friends. This led me to
designing fabrics for my handbags. Bloggers requested to purchase the fabrics and it
snowballed from there.

If you could turn back time and give yourself one piece of advice before starting your
work in textile design and production, what would it be?
Things always take longer than you think!! So add more time on the end.
What are your inspirations when designing new prints and objects?
My kids, my surroundings, things from my childhood.
How do you balance a young family with running your own business? Just.
School is great, my littlest started this year and that has given me the extra time I needed
to squish everything into a day. School hols can be a little crazy. I try not to achieve so
much then, just have more fun times with the kids.
Can you explain the textile design and production process, how an idea in your head
comes to life on a piece of fabric. 21
I think about designs for a LONG time before I touch the computer. I might do some
sketching then scan those in. Then next is a lot of playing around (usually very late at
night) until I'm happy with it. The file goes to the printer, the fabrics are ordered and
colours chosen.
You have made everything from softies, to notebooks, to clothing…are there any other
things you’d like to create with your textiles and prints?
I would love do some larger scale designs for interiors. I'm very inspired by Cloth and
Surface Art and their success here in Australia. And more clothing. It's a little ego boost
when the Mum's at school ask 'where did you get that skirt?' and I can say I designed it.
Sounds like I'm bragging, but someones got to! What other designers do you most
admire? See above. Also Lotta Jansdotter, Lara Cameron and Shannon Lamden.
What’s your favourite song or album at the moment?

I'm really loving Joss Stone - mind body & soul. It's a real pick me up when I'm stressing
about life not going along so smoothly.

Ivy Designs' printed fabric

Tuesday, November 25, 2008
I am part of a lovely online forum group that discusses everything related to sewing - we
talk about personal projects, new fabrics, needlework, patterns etc... this is where I found
out about Spoonflower, a fantastic online business that allows you to transform your
artwork into fabric. So I gave it a go and had so much fun in the process! Below are the
results...we will have a few of these tops for sale at the upcoming markets.

Market Report
Sunday, December 07, 2008
My sister Anna (right) and I (left) We are still on a high from our first experience selling
at the markets! The Finders Keepers exceeded our expectations in so many ways.
Firstly, the location was excellent, so much space! The Carriageworks (a former railway
carriage and blacksmith workshop) is industrial and modern at the same time, an
inspiring piece of architecture in itself. Secondly, the amount of people in attendance was
staggering. When the doors opened on the Friday night, there was a huge flood of people
and it didn't seem to end. In fact, it got busier and noisier as the night progressed. With
the band playing and bubbly flowing, the vibe was amazing! We had shoppers coming at
us left right and centre. Saturday was a longer trading day and also very busy. We moved
a lot of stock. I was quite flustered for most of the time (and boy, was it HOT inside that
building!). Anna, my very pregnant sister, did an amazing job getting through the long
days. What blew us away the most was our wonderful customers and fellow stallholders.
We met so many lovely customers and inspiring artisans. Everyone was exceptionally
supportive and encouraging! The Ivy Designs' stall was definitely a combined effort. Our
father made some of the props, my best friend helped with the set up and selling, her
husband took the photos, our husbands looked after the babies and we had a whole
bunch of family and friends come as support crew (mostly shopping and drinking really!).
All in all, it was well worth the effort. Not sure if we can get the same kind of help at every
market we do, but this was a good start.
Some more photos below...
Ps. Thanks for popping in with goodies Kristen! Your dolls were a hit!

Crochet Watermelon Hair Candy Bloom Tunic I have always swooned over Rachel's
work. I had seen her photos in magazines and on websites. Her name popped up often
when people talked about beautiful portrait photos. Can you imagine how thrilled I was
when I noticed her name in our "sold" items? I even had to check with her that she was
the Rachel Richter! So I sent her the items purchased and now they are on her blog,
photographed on her gorgeous daughter above! We're so excited! Thanks Rachel!! Here

Feeling the love

Wednesday, December 17, 2008
I received this email today from a dear friend. I'm not normally the type to pass emails on
but thought this was too cute not to share! Slow down for three minutes to read this. It is
so worth it. Touching words from the mouths of babes. What does 'Love' mean? A group
of professional people posed this question to a group of 4 to 8 year-olds, 'What does
'love' mean?' The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have
imagined. See what you think:

'When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her toenails
anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis
too.. That's love.' Rebecca- age 8

'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that
your name is safe in their mouth.' Billy - age 4

'Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne and they go out
and smell each other.' Karl - age 5

'Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French fries without
making them give you any of theirs.' Chrissie - age 6

'Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.' Terri - age 4

'Love is when my mummy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it
to him, to make sure the taste is OK.' Danny - age 7
27
'Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired of kissing, you still want to be
together and you talk more. My Mummy and Daddy are like that They look gross when
they kiss' Emily - age 8

'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.'
Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)

'If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate,' Nikka -
age 6 (we need a few million more Nikka's on this planet)

'Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears it everyday.' Noelle - age 7

'Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they
know each other so well.' Tommy - age 6

'During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people
watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I
wasn't scared anymore.' Cindy - age 8

'My mummy loves me more than anybody You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep
at night.' Clare - age 6

'Love is when Mummy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken.' Elaine-age 5
'Love is when Mummy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer
than Robert Redford.' Chris - age 7

'Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day' Mary Ann -
age 4

'I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her old clothes and has to go
out and buy new ones.' Lauren - age 4

'When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of
you.' (what an image) Karen - age 7

'Love is when Mummy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't think it's gross.' Mark -
age 6
'You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But if you mean it, you should
say it a lot. People forget.' Jessica - age 8

And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he
was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child. The
winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who
had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old
gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his Mother asked what
he had said to the neighbour, the little boy said, 'Nothing, I just helped him cry'

When there is nothing left, that is when you find out that love is all you need.

customers and suppliers for all your support this year. Thanks everyone for reading this
blog and your lovely comments. It's been so much fun! My sister and I have had a

Year.

Happy 2009!
Saturday, January 10, 2009
Hello and happy New Year! I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and found the time
to relax. We spent the week with another family in Nelson Bay, on the NSW north coast.
It was a beautiful location and we had a great time. The weather was hot!! Now things are
slowly getting back to normal...hubby at work, Ivy in daycare (twice a week) and me, back
to putting the finishing touches on our Winter range and also catching up on some orders.

When it comes to eating, Ivy has decided to become Little Miss Independent. Problem is,
she makes the BIGGEST mess and I am forever moping up. Ivy has now developed the
habit of completing her meal by tipping the bowl of unfinished food on her head - I kid you
not, this happens at almost every sitting. Ivy has about three baths a day because of this
odd behaviour! Everything gets dirty, including the high chair and the floor. So on a hot
day last week, I sat her in the courtyard and she happily ate her meal. After she tipped
the bowl on her head, what did I do? I took the hose out and sprayed the high chair - with
Ivy in it! She loved it and ended up playing with the hose by herself...

Hosing down the high chair - and the baby! (beans on the floor)

Great day in Palm Beach
Wednesday, January 14, 2009
What a wonderful playground for the kids!

Yabbies

I kept the holiday vibe going for just a bit longer today by taking Ivy to Palm Beach, to visit
a friend and her kids. I also thought Ivy deserved a day out after a bout of roseola, poor
love.

We had a great day! I really enjoyed catching up with my girlfriend and Ivy loved playing
in the sand. We even caught some yabbies! Ivy also tried some new foods - beetroot,
feta and meatballs. The latter was the clear winner! I would love more relaxing days like
this.

Ivy Designs Winter 09

Monday, January 19, 2009
This is a sneak peek at our winter dresses. Winter 09 also includes trousers, skirts, tops
and a jacket.
Here is a sneak peek at some of the dress designs from our Winter 09 collection,
available in March. The Winter collection has been kept small, comprising of
approximately 15 pieces plus matching accessories and bibs. Our dresses are
transeasonal, so they can be layered in winter and worn alone in warmer weather. We
have chosen some beautiful prints (including designs by Amy Butler and Valorie Wells)
and teamed them up with cosy pinwale cord. Valorie Well's 'Urban Flannel' range is not
your ordinary flannel, it is quilters quality and therefore extra soft, vibrant and will not pill
like cheap flannel. We are pleased to let you know that we now outsource most of the
cutting and sewing to local suppliers, who already work with some top brands in
Australia. So, it's re-assuring to know that the quality of our products will remain high and
we're supporting the Australian industry. My sister and I are still very hands on though,
making all the hair accessories, applique work, pre production samples and putting the
finishing touches on everything! We are also intending to keep production small and in
30
limited quantities, for the time being anyway.

Ivy Designs' 'Owl Pinny' dress
As usual I couldn't wait to get my hands on Shop 4 Kids magazine - I just love it! I was so
excited to see one of our winter dresses featured - the 'Owl Pinny'. Special thanks Rosie
Pose for including us in your ad, what a lovely surprise! And Mathilda's Market - your ad
looks fab! Be sure to check out Mathilda's Market (in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and
Brisbane) if you are after unique and handmade children's products. We will be at the
Sydney market on March 22nd. There will be lots of great things on offer, from talented
fellow stallholders such as Linocreative, Printspace, Ani & Trio and Spinning Pretty. I
particularly love the 'One Fine Day' fashion shoot in Shop 4 Kids. Very romantic! Also the
'Easy as ABC' spread- so many beautiful babies in adorable outfits! Now I just have to
find an hour or three to read the magazine, from cover to cover.

Bushfires
Monday, February 09, 2009
On a much sadder and serious note...wherever you are in the world, you would have
heard about the tragedy that has struck Australia. Victoria has experienced the worst
bushfires in the country's history with numerous homes and lives lost. My heart goes out 31
to everyone affected, the pain and devastation is unfathomable. I personally have
contributed monetary funds to assist the victims and will also be sending goods on behalf
of Ivy Designs to help as many children as possible. I urge you to do the same.

Shopping
Tuesday, February 10, 2009
Flicking through the pages of Shop 4 Kids, there are soooo many things that caught my
eye...the mag is truly jam packed with stuff. For starters, I have put in an order for the
Spellbound Tutu by Lollydandy. It is an amazing piece of art and Ivy will have so much
fun wearing it! I will also be getting my hands on some adorable mushrooms by Crafsty (I
love supporting Etsy sellers). It was also nice to see two of my favourite retailers in the
mag - My Messy Room and Baby's Got Style. I am totally envious of baby Allegra's
wardrobe!

Peek-a-boo
Saturday, February 14, 2009

Rachel Richter, photographer extraordinaire, has taken the most gorgeous photos of our
Winter '09 collection! This is just a sneak peek and all will be revealed next month when
the range is available to purchase. As a result of our feature in Shop 4 Kids, we have
already had calls from eager customers enquiring about the Owl Pinny above. Even
though we are getting help these days, our clothing production still takes a fair amount
time - especially all the handcrafted touches. We have a very busy couple of months
coming up!
PS. Aren't these red ballet slippers the cutest shoes ever?? They are from Cheeky Little
Soles. Infact, all of the shoes in our Winter '09 shoot are from CLS. Ivy has been wearing
them since she was a few months old and they are great now that she is learning to walk.

Want to turn your craft into a business?

Friday, February 20, 2009
I often get asked for advice on all sorts of things related to starting up a
craft/sewing/clothing business. I find this ironic, since I am a fledgling myself! I try to help
in any way I can, however, the advice I give comes from personal experience (it's
certainly not expert advice) and what I have gleaned from my peers. The generosity of
other business owners has been astounding! I am so grateful to all those that have been
32
more than willing to impart their knowledge - I truly believe in what goes around comes
around, and this has proven true.

So, for those crafters and budding fashion entrepreneurs out there, here's my two cents
worth...go and get yourself these two books!...

This book by Meg Mateo Ilasco is a great help to artists and crafters who want to turn
their passion into a fully fledged business. Everything is covered from deciding on a
business name to marketing to selling and all the legalities involved with a business. The
in-depth interviews with names such as Denyse Schmidt and Jill Bliss provide inspiration
and practical advice. Furthermore, this book is cute to boot! A real pleasure to read!

'Fashion for Profit' by Frances Harder, is for those with a particular interest in starting a
clothing business. It reminds me of my old uni textbooks - although I do find it much more
interesting! It covers in detail the all important aspect of COSTING! I for one, know how
easy it is to let your creativity lead you astray! It is one thing to make something as a
hobby, and a completely different story when making it a product that will sell in many
units - and sustain a living (or atleast cover your costs in the first couple of years!). It is a
pretty dry book, but great for those looking for a straight-forward read about the fashion
business. I have found it a very useful tool.

Well, I hope this has helped in some way :)

Handmade Stamp
Tuesday, February 24, 2009
handcarved stamp Another Etsy purchase to show you - I bought a custom made rubber
stamp from The Mayberry Sparrow. It's so adorable, I just love the handmade look about
it. Corrabelle used one of the Ivy Designs' illustrations and handcarved the stamp. I am
going to be stamping everything in sight! These stamps would make a lovely customised
gift for someone. Posted by ivy designs at 01:16PM (+11:00)

Ivy Handbags! Sample sale...

Wednesday, February 25, 2009
Just for a bit of fun, we designed some handbags and had samples made for us. We kept
a few for ourselves and the rest are here for sale. The bags are made with genuine
leather and cute cotton prints imported from Japan. They can be used on the shoulder,
as a sling across the body or even as a clutch - suitable for girls of all ages! Each bag
comes with a cotton dustbag printed with our logo and original illustration of Ivy. Like all
of our products, they are made in a sweatshop-free environment. Once they're gone,
that's it! We're not sure when we will get the chance to design more bags, but it was a fun
project!

looking forward to it! We will have all of our summer stock on sale and might even have
some Winter pieces available (hopefully!!). These are some one-off tops we made
especially for the markets.

Open Room
Friday, March 06, 2009
A fellow blogger requested to do an "open house" tour at my place. I think she had the
impression that my home was somehow worthy of a show and tell. I had to decline. I
would love to, but sadly, it's nothing to write about, plus it's a mess! With some of the
production of our winter range happening in my lounge room at the moment and hardly
any time for housework, the last thing I want to do is to put my place on display! What I
will do though, is show you pics of Ivy's room, which is normally the neatest room in the
house. When I get around to tidying her wardrobe, I might even be brave enough to show
you that...just don't ask to see mine! In a few weeks, I will hopefully have a new studio so
I am excited about that (pending council approval). I love love love the open house tours
on the Bloesem Kids site. Some of my favourite labels are featured, including Smallville
and Misha Lulu.

Daisy Maid Top This is a beautiful blouse I purchased for my daughter from Australian
boutique label Thula Thula. It is absolutely divine. Naomi is the exceptionally talented
designer behind this up and coming label. The workmanship is pure quality and it isn't
hard to see that she has a background in fashion design and production. Thula Thula will
be at Mathilda's Market in Melbourne this weekend, so make sure you pop in. Also, you
can check out what's happening on the Thula Thula blog.

Molly Mouse
Wednesday, March 11, 2009
I recently gave away some fabric scraps to a few forum friends. I didn't want the scraps to
go to waste. Little did I know that some of my scraps would be returned to me,
transformed into a gorgeous creature! I had the honour of naming her Molly Mouse. Isn't
Molly the most stylish mouse you have ever seen? Check out the bling bling! Jaclyn from
"Honeybunch Designs" will be at Mathilda's Market in QLD on Sunday 22nd March, with
some of her adorable softies for sale.

Handmade Cards
Monday, March 16, 2009
Being a crafty creative type, I often find it hard to keep myself focused and motivated
doing the same thing over and over again. For example, I am working on some bibs at
the moment. They are for an order due next week and so I thought I would make them
myself instead of getting them done with the rest of our winter production (which should
be available in stores in a couple of weeks). In total, there are 40 bibs to make but I
simply can not sit there and make the whole lot in one go. My mind keeps wandering and
I think about other things I can create. So what have I been itching to make? Cards! They
were fun to put together and like a breath of fresh air! They will be for sale at Mathilda's
this coming weekend ... now back to the bibs...

Productive day
Thursday, March 19, 2009
I love being able to work from home and spend time with Ivy, even though it's not easy
getting any work done! I usually have to sneak in a bit of work during nap time. Most of
my work is done after hours (which is why I am still up at midnight most nights!). When
Ivy is around, my eyes are constantly darting between the job at hand and the
mischevious toddler. So I am surprised I got a bit done today. Bibs nearly finished (just
need to do topstitching and attach the snaps) and I even made a few cot comforters. The
comforters turned out really well with the beautiful quilter's flannel from our winter range,
wonderfully soft and light. I am so envious of some of the gorgeous quilts my blogging
35
friends have made. Check this one out by Amy over at Bad Skirt

Now for something different... a recipe!

Friday, March 20, 2009
One of my favourite past times is cooking. Infact, I was even a manager for a catering
company at one stage (that's another story!). I'm no good at sweet dishes, but savoury
dishes go down well. My husband declared that one of the reasons he married me was
for my cooking skills! I am not sure if this is a good thing anymore, since I haven't had the
time to cook as much lately!!!Anyway, I won back favour with this dish last night. It's a
simple Vietnamese recipe (with a few of my own modifications) - great for warm balmy
nights! It's tangy, fresh and healthy. Best served with a nice cold dry white wine (although
I had mine with a glass of red)...

Vietnamese rice noodle salad with steamed fish

Dressing:
1/2 cup water
4 tablespoons granulated sugar
3 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons fresh lime or lemon juice
2 tablespoons fish sauce
2 teaspoons minced peeled fresh ginger
Chopped fresh chillies
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon hoi sin sauce
Salad:
1 packet (500g) rice vermicelli noodles
600g fish fillets (I used snapper)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons brown sugar
Cooking oil
2 cups thinly sliced iceberg lettuce
1 cup matchstick-cut cucumber
1 cup matchstick-cut carrot
1 cup bean sprouts
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
1/4 cup chopped fresh coriander
3 tablespoons chopped fresh mint
1/2 cup chopped dry-roasted peanuts (unsalted)
Lime or lemon wedges (optional)
Dressing:
Combine all dressing ingredients in a small saucepan; cook over medium heat for 5
minutes or just until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat; cool.
Noodles:
Boil vermicelli in a large pot. Cook until tender – approx 5 mins. Drain and rinse under
cold water; drain.
Caramelised Onion mixture:
36 Fry onions in cooking oil on medium heat, stirring regularly. When onions start to brown,
add garlic and spring onions. Turn to low heat and caramelise onions – this will take
around 20 mins in total. At the end, add the brown sugar, salt and pepper to mixture.
Fish:
Gently steam fish until opaque in colour and cooked through. Approx 10-15 mins. I used
a large fry pan, fill it with water half way, place fish on metal steaming dish and put the lid
on. Medium to high heat – gentle boil/simmer.
To serve: In serving bowls, combine vermicelli, lettuce, carrots, cucumber, bean sprouts
and all herbs (Toss at this stage if desired). Top with fish pieces and caramelised onion
mixture. Garnish with nuts and serve with a squeeze of lime or lemon! (Serves about 4)

Ivy's day out with daddy

Sunday, March 22, 2009
Whilst mummy was working at Mathilda's Market, daddy was responsible for looking after
Ivy. They had a 'fun' day out...hmmmm... ;p

Daddy: "Why don't we have an icecream and mess up your favourite new top!" (note the
totally mismatched leggings) "Lets go for a walk in the sun! Who needs the sunshade?!"
"You look like you need a rest...in the gutter"

"Oh look a fountain! Why don't you get yourself all wet! Your new leather shoes really do
need a soaking!"

"Time for a snack. Should we put your grubby top back on and sit you at the table like a
little lady?"

Daddy did score lots of brownie points with this surprise purchase for me...some really
cute buttons from Buttons Buttons (25 Nurses Walk, The Rocks Sydney). How cute!

Market Report
Sunday, March 22, 2009
We had a very busy day at Mathilda's Market today. How I managed to survive on 5
hours sleep the night before, I don't know! Unfortunately I left my camera at home, so no
pics, sorry. Thank you to all our lovely customers and people who stopped by for a chat,
you really made it worthwhile! We have a lot of new subscribers to the blog (welcome)
and to celebrate this, we will have a giveaway very soon! I just want to say thanks also to
Bianca, my bestie, who helped me out all day (she was a trooper, also surviving on 5
hours sleep! Yes, we were out together); Anne and Sue, the organisers for putting on
such a well organised event; Leonie and Glen from Tippie Toes for helping me pack at
the end of the day (it was lovely to put a face to the name!); Carolyn for popping in to see
me with some goodies for Ivy; Giotta from Miss Beba for all your friendly advice and my
hubbie for looking after our little girl all day (more on that later).

Here's an interesting article about the founder of Mathilda's Market - Anne is an

inspiration!

Wednesday, April 01, 2009
Come on down... Rousabout Studio, you are the winner of our giveaway! Congrats, I
know the goodies will go to a lovely home. We will be in touch shortly to get your postal
details :)

I loved reading all of the replies. Thanks everyone for putting in the effort with your
answers. I have never even heard of some of these places, so will have to check them
out when I am next in the area. All the markets sound so charming! I lived in London a
few years ago and my favourite market is/was the Old Spitalfields Market in East London.
I haven't been there since the refurb but I used to love it for the location, bargains and
characters that you would bump into! I loved wandering around and rummaging through
the eclectic array of goodies - I found a genuine vintage Mui Mui handbag there once for
38
10 pounds! Often I would pop in for a curry at Brick Lane and then a few drinks at one of
the cool bars nearby. One of the most memorable things I have ever done at a market
was get my belly button pierced in Camden (London). I thought it was a good idea at the
time, but it has long been removed!

Note: Only 22 comments included in draw, as I didn't include my comment or any double
ups.

Patience is a virtue
Saturday, April 04, 2009
This is why i need to say thanks to my stockists and eager customers for waiting for the
imminent arrival of our winter stock, which has been slightly delayed. We have been
taking a few pre orders from customers and will send these as soon as possible. I have
been working extra hard, especially with our little family under the weather. Life has been
extremely hectic, infact I don't ever remember working this hard! Things have been
neglected...like housework, family time and friends... not to mention sleep! I am looking
forward to coming up for air very soon.

Before (woman's top/dress/pregnancy outfit?)

After (little girl's summer dress)

My husband loves second hand stores. He can't walk past a St Vincent De Paul or
Salvo's store without popping in for a look. He loves flea markets, junk yards, antique
shops, garage sales...heaven forbid, he even likes council cleanup day when people
have all their junk on the sides of the road! He loves that show on TV called Antique
Roadshow and swears that some of his items are worth just as much. Until he met me,
he hordered a lot of collectables. Sadly for him though, we've had to get rid of most of his
'memorabilia' - except for the 20 boxes of precious vinyl records! I also have a close
friend, Lillian, who has the most impeccable style. Lillian's look is very eclectic, she mixes
a lot of thrift finds with designer brands and high street pieces - and she manages to pull
it off everytime! She is always surprising me with the latest gorgeous dress or necklace
she has found at a ridiculous price. Me, I am not so lucky (except for the 10 pound Mui
Mui bag). I love looking for the next bargain but I rarely find it! This weekend, however, I
think I did well finding this $2 dress from Vinnie's...although I couldn't help myself and
gave it a mini makeover!

Pic of our stall from the last Finders Keepers market (Nov 08)
The next market for Ivy Designs will be on the 15th and 16th May at The Finders
Keepers. This is a great event, with goods catering for all ages. The Finders Keepers is
housed in the fantastic Carriageworks buiding in Redfern, featuring a bar and live music.
The last time we were there, I purchased these great perspex buttons from Made By

Winter has arrived!

Wednesday, April 15, 2009
Phew! It has been a very hectic couple of months at Ivy Designs. We have been working
like crazy fulfilling all of the Winter orders for our retailers - definitely the largest amount of
goods we have ever produced in one go! My sister Anna and I are very hands on - so it's
been a challenge to juggle fulltime work with young children...(not to mention the few
production hiccups we encountered along the way) but we finally finished! You can read
about the range and view pics here. We are SUPER excited to announce our new
retailers below. It's a dream come true to stock in these stores, as we love their set up
and shop there ourselves. It may take a week or two for the goods to appear on the
shelves (and I will be there at the window taking photos for sure! haha). Most of our
range will also be available directly from us, however, some pieces may run out. If you
don't see something you would like, please pop us an email and we will try to locate one
for you from one of our stockists. We will also have some Winter stock with us at The
Finders Keepers markets in May (as well as other goods not available online).

Smallville is one of my favourite labels. Jimin from California is the talent behind this
beautiful range of children's clothing. I first came across Smallville on Etsy, but they have
since opened an online store, which can be viewed here. Jimin's background in art is
displayed not only in her clothing, but her blog. It's simply gorgeous! I just purchased the
Bow Tie Tuxedo Pants above. Here are some other favourite pieces from Smallville that
caught my eye.

Stepford Dreams

This is a blog I have been following since day one. It appeals to my sense of humour. In
short, it details "the adventures of an unlikely housewife". Carolyn, an ex lawyer, is witty,
sarcastic, entertaining and VERY funny. Stepford Dreams was recently catapulted into
blog heaven by becoming a "Blog of Note". Yes, the secret is out and now I am doing my
bit to spread the word.
Why? Because this blogger is also doing a selfless act and needs your help. You see,
Carolyn hates exercise with a passion but she is participating in the Mother's Day Classic
run to raise money for cancer research. Cancer is a disease she knows about all too well.
In her own words... "I know it is the global financial crisis and all but if I'm wearing a
daggy outift and running til I'm a tomato then you can all afford to cough up a few
dollars...".
To help Carolyn reach her $2000 goal, donate here. Well done Carolyn, you're doing a
wonderful thing.

Shop Window
Sunday, April 19, 2009
I woke up early this morning to collect hubbie and Ivy from the airport. They arrived back
from a week's holiday in North Queensland. My husband was a brave man to take our 18
month old on a holiday all by himself! I don't know many fathers who would do that, so
kudos to him! I missed them so much, but it was the first real break I had since having the
baby. I managed to sort out a lot of paperwork, meet up with a few friends, relax a little
and even did a spring clean of the house. I feel like a new woman! I was thrilled to see a
few of our pieces in My Messy Room's shop window. This was a first, so a photo had to
be taken as a keepsake. We were really busy with orders this weekend, thank you to our
customers! I wonder if it had something to do with this interesting blog post. Thanks for
the write up Stepford Dreams, you are too kind.

A dress for Zahra

Saturday, April 25, 2009
I have gone all out with the applique design for this dress! I made it last night as a gift for
a friend's gorgeous little girl, Zahra. I think the dress will suit her love of colour and bubbly
personality. I have chosen a lovely green pinwale corduroy for the base fabric and flannel
for the applique. The whole dress is lined with a cute pink polka dot fabric, which is
41
echoed in the applique. Hand Stitching and button embellishments add further texture to
this tactile dress. I will try and get a photo of Zahra wearing it, I just hope it fits! Kids grow
up so fast and I haven't seen the family in a while.
Front
Back
I cut the animal appliques from the below flannel fabric by Valorie Wells. The print is
called "Friends" and part of the range we have been using for our Winter collection.

A finger in every pie

Thursday, April 30, 2009
I have so many projects on the go at the moment, it is a bit mind boggling. I really should
be focusing on the Finder Keepers Markets, but as usual, I keep getting distracted!

The Studio
Ivy Designs normally operates out of two places 1. My sister's place, where she has a
spare room and 2. My dining room table! I am, however, very excited as my little home
studio is actually in the making as we speak. We had big sliding doors built this weekend
to seal off part of the courtyard, which has now given us an extra room at the back of our
apartment. I have been painting the brick work till all hours. There are a few sneaky pics
below but I'll take more photos when it's all tidy (which could be a while!). I can't wait to
show you the fantastic set of drawers I picked up from Salvo's yesterday - yes, Salvos!
Unlike me, I actually found something decent! Really decent. It's arriving at my place
tomorrow, hopefully.

Ivy's Room

Ivy will be moving into a single bed very soon, so I am taking the opportunity redo the
room a little. We haven't got the bed yet but I have already bought the bedding and
cushions from Adairs. I made this fun cushion today (front and back):

Below is a wall hanging I made with some gorgeous new Japanese fabric that I
purchased recently from http://www.superbuzzy.com/. Some of the fabric will be used as
appliques on one-off pieces for the markets. Something else I am working on... a knitted
beanie for a friend's impending baby. Honestly, I just can't keep still even if I tried. I
wonder how many people out there are like me, always wanting to create - I think it's an
obession. An obsession that does drive me crazy sometimes! Posted by ivy designs at

Thrift Find
Friday, May 01, 2009
I am so happy with this purchase from Salvos. Guess how much I got it for? $50! It is in
perfect condition, solid timber and the drawers slide in and out easily. I have no idea what
decade it is from - I am guessing 70s? It even came complete with hippy drawer liners
inside (which I will be replacing). I just gave it a spray with furniture polish and voila!
Pictured here is also the fairy dress I bought for Ivy - she loves it but my husband hates it!
He was horrified that I would buy such a thing - I told him to stop being a spoiled sport
42 and that all little girls like to play dress ups!

surprised us with photos of our clothes in the shop window of Little Owl in ACT! Such a
lovely thing to do for us. Thank you Jen, your efforts are very much appreciated! xox

Turning Japanese
Thursday, May 07, 2009
Once in a while, if I have time, I create custom designed items for customers. This is a
dress I recently completed for an 11 month old girl to wear to a wedding. I was so excited
that the customer wanted me to make something Japanese inspired, as this is a theme
close to my heart. My own wedding dress incorporated a vintage obi, pictured below (btw,
I am not Japanese). The little dress above has a simple babydoll silhouette, with a pleat
at the front and back. I have made an origami style rosette brooch using co-ordinating
fabric. Matching bloomers will finish this outfit beautifully. Can't wait to see it being worn!

My couture wedding dress was designed and made by Lisa Merton from Culture Shock.
Below is the final sketch of my dress before it was made up. It was so exciting to see the
dress come to life! Lisa is incredibly talented - you can view her blog here.

My weekend
Sunday, May 10, 2009
To all the mother's out there, happy mother's day today! You deserve a pat on the back -
I know first hand how challenging being a mother can be. I also know how rewarding and
fulfilling it is :) I really believe that children are life's greatest gift. I feel very blessed to
have my little girl, she makes me laugh every single day. She is my inspiration, not just
for the business but for life in general.

Carolyn, I was thinking of you today, running in the rain at the Mother's Day Classic!
What a great deed.

Since my husband 'forgot' mother's day last year (my first!), he made up for it this year. It
started yesterday with breakfast in bed. The three of us then spent the morning at the
local school fair. I tortured my husband by dressing Ivy in her fairy dress, complete with
wand (pic above). We had a great time - on the rides, looking at all the stalls, eating and
Ivy rode a pony for the first time! For dinner, I was spoilt with a gorgeous home cooked
curry and a very very nice bottle of red. After a lie in this morning, I was greeted with
more home cooked yumminess - a Spanish omelette and freshly brewed coffee.
Impressive. We have a 'no presents' policy in our household when it comes to Valentine's
Day, Mother's Day and Father's Day - the only mandatory thing is a handmade card.
Hubbie and Ivy have now given me a bit of peace and quiet to finish some work for the
Finders Keepers markets coming up this week. This is what we're up to in the studio...

Applique tees Applique tees - we will be selling these as sets, with matching pants.

A few pieces for the boys - Fleece pullovers with matching trackie bottoms My sister,
Anna, is working on lots of new hair candy. So if you are in Sydney, come and see us!

In the last two days, 19 hours was spent at the The Finders Keepers market. My feet are
still killing me and I am run down, but it was all worth it! We had a very successful time in
terms of sales and feedback. This market was definitely our best ever - not that we have
done that many (4 in total). Friday night was crazy, with people squeezed in every corner
of the venue. It was hard to manoeuvre at times. With bubbly in hand, live music in the
background, queues at the bar and people everywhere, I wondered where I was - at work
or a nightclub? Seeing as I don't get out much lately, I guess this was the next best thing!
Next to us was Amy from Bad Skirt, who was even lovelier and funnier in person than in
cyberspace. On the other side was the amazing Holly Chalmers. I purchased gorgeous
things from both stalls. Other purchases included the two beautiful cushions shown below
from Feed The Dog, a brooch from Made by White and an embroidery kit from Kristen
Doran. I think the biggest surprise of all was 'Jen from Melbourne', a loyal customer who
had flown from Melbourne to help out Amy with her stall set up and surprise me with a
visit! Jen - your generosity and support ceases to amaze me. Hi to all the other bloggers
and customers who introduced themselves. My sister Anna and I were very pleased to
meet you all. Last and not least, thanks to Amy, my sister in law for helping out. We
couldn't have done it without you! xxx
PS. As a result of the success of the markets, we have sold out of some items/sizes from
our winter range. Our online shop will be updated in the next week. If you would like
something that we don't have, please enquire with our stockists -Baby's Got Styleis our
exclusive online retailer with the biggest range. We have had a lot of enquiries about the
items we made especially for the markets - remaining stock will be available to buy from
our shop in the next week.

Ivy's New Room

Wednesday, May 27, 2009

46
Ivy is 20 months old and we thought it was time to move her into a 'Big Girl's Bed'. When
we first put the bed up, she squealed with delight and jumped right in. She was very
excited. That night, however, there were a few tears before bedtime. It took a couple of
nights of getting used to, but now she is back to her old sleeping habits, which is good!
This Ikea bed is great for the transition from a cot. It extends to 3 lengths, from cot size to
a standard single size. It also has the railings on the side and prevents the little ones from
falling out...it's very affordable too! The great thing now is every night my husband and I
can also get into the bed with Ivy (not at the same time) and read before lights out.

I took the opportunity to do up Ivy's room - and had a whole lot of fun in the process! The
wall decals are from Love Mae. The range at Love Mae is just beautiful! I love the vintage
feel, quite different to others on the market. The quality is excellent. I also put up some
fairy lights to go with the bunting on the ceiling. The handles on the bedside table were
changed with some crystal ones I got from Reclaim. The rustic bench along the wall was
from Ellen's Interiors. My little girl also received some new toys, the main ones being a
wooden oven, tea set and doll cradle - which she claimed as her own, as you can see
below...

Kids Style File

Monday, June 01, 2009
Surfing the net as I do, I stumbled across this bit of publicity on Kids Style File tonight. It
is a promo for Baby's Got Style and contains a small blurb and pics about Ivy Designs. It
was posted about 3 weeks ago. I am usually very quick off the mark with any media
coverage. Does anyone have tips on how a small business keeps track of publicity (I
know bigger companies use media monitors). After years working in media, I get a real
kick being on the other side! I guess it is like a pat on the back for all the hard work! If you
do check out the Kids Style File site, they are conducting the Annual Reader Survey at
the moment. There is $12,000 of prizes to be won. Speaking of prizes, I won a
competition this week! I will reveal the prize when it arrives.

I won this! Ani and Trio bedding
Tuesday, June 02, 2009
There is always a giveaway or competition happening somewhere in the blogesphere...I
love them! It's not like the lottery where the chances of winning are something like a
billion to one (so to speak). I have entered a few giveaways and this is the first time I
have won something! And it is gorgeous and perfect for Ivy's new room - a reversible quilt
and sheet set from Australian company Ani and Trio. The colours are so sweet and I
certainly have a thing for polka dots. The quality is excellent. In its current size, Ivy's bed
fits the flat sheet and the quilt but not the fitted sheet. I will just have to save it for baby
number 2...whenever that may be!

Babyology Review
Thursday, June 04, 2009
Speaking of being quick off the mark with publicity, it is 8.30am and I was alerted by Little
Miss Stella about this...it's a lovely write up about Ivy Designs on the cool website,
Babyology. Thanks Jaime for the great review! Unfortunately our 'Love Birds' and 'Owl'
dresses are running low in our online boutique but we will be making up a small number
for Mathilda's market in July. Any remaining items will be available online after the market
(5 July). As usual, please enquire with our stockists (see column on right) for further info
on stock availability.

Favourite Photo Tag

Friday, June 12, 2009
Chantelle from Fat Mum Slim tagged me with this fun photo blog game.

"It's really simple. I love how every photo tells a story. Some short stories, some long
tales. I want to know what is your favourite photo of yourself. Everyone has one. The
photo they look at and smile. It reminds them of something, some time, some place. A
moment in time. So share the photo, share the story and then tag three other people. I
want to see photos and stories all around the blogosphere".
48
I have lot of photos I could share, unfortunately most of them are not in digital format. So
my pick is this one below:

It is a shot of my best friend of 22 years, Bianca (right) and I in...you guess it...Spain! I
like this shot, it makes me smile everytime I see it. I can't remember if I was trying not to
laugh or doing my best pout. It was taken in 2001 when (a) I lived abroad and travelled
for about 2 years (b) I didn't have a care in the world (c) I was skinny :)

I remember this day very well. We walked past a costume shop in Seville a few days
earlier and decided to come back and have our photos taken. There was a lot of giggling
in the change room as we tried on all the flamenco dresses. After the photos were taken
we went to a nearby tapas bar to escape the 40 degree heat outside. I recall stumbling
out of the bar a few hours later (having cosumed a good amount of Sangria). We got lost
but eventually navigated our way back to the hotel at some point. Bianca and I spent a
month in Spain. We travelled quite a bit together and even shared a bedroom in London
for a year! Nice memories...

Now I will tag the following people:

Kelly from Little Bubble and Tree

Leonie from Tippie Toes

Mimoo from Little Mimoo

Australian Women Online Article
Thursday, June 18, 2009
Tania McCartney (Aussie mum, writer,
editor, publisher, kids author, bloggist,
traveller) has written a fantastic article for
Australian Women Online about kids
clothing. See what some Australian
designers (Ivy Designs included) have to
say about boutique versus mass produced
clothing. I have to say, it's a novelty for me
to be quoted in an article!

Another successful thrift find

Thursday, June 18, 2009
Perhaps I am not as unlucky as I thought I
was, when it comes to finding thrift
bargains. First with the chest of drawers
from Salvos and now this...

This is an outfit I put together yesterday for

Ivy, from St Vincent De Paul. The
angora/cashmere cardi and smocked
cotton blouse are both from Country Road.
The white trousers are from Esprit.
Everything looks brand new. It came to a
total of $8! I happily showed them off to
hubbie and he was quite impressed with my
efforts.

BUT should I tell him about this purchase

today? (below) They were all on sale at My
Messy Room and came to $114. Not bad I
say... Jacket from Polka, Jeans from Big By
Fiona and top from Wasabi Kids. My child
is definitely the winner in the fashion stakes
in our household.

Bye Bye Bruny

Friday, June 19, 2009

50
Five years ago we bought "Daisy Banks Cottage" on Bruny Island in Tasmania
(Australia). Set on 5 acres, Daisy Banks is a lovely historic house on the waterfront. We
renovated the house a little - sanded the floorboards, new lick of paint inside, new carpet
and added a large water tank. We also furnished it completely, ready for holiday makers.
We had romantic ideas about spending many holidays there ourselves. Sadly in the last
five years, we only made it down there four times - albeit four wonderful times. Our
favourite past times at Daisy Banks included spending time with family and friends who
came to visit, collecting oysters, mussels and scallops, going for gorgeous walks, seeing
all the beautiful wild life around and visiting our lovely neighbours (and hearing all the
weird and wonderful stories about the happenings). My husband loved taking the boat out
on the water.

Over the years the house needed more and more maintanence. I guess old houses are
like that. With one main income and a baby, the cottage was getting too expensive for us
to keep...and it was preventing us from purchasing the family home. So last year we
decided to put Daisy Banks on the market. We were ecstatic when a buyer came along in
the first day! Unfortunately it fell through at the last minute. We were devastated, since
we knew another buyer probably wouldn't come around for a while (it is a very very small
market). It has taken a year but we have finally sold the cottage to a lovely local lady, who 51
we believe will give it the TLC it needs. Bruny Island is a beautiful part of the world and
we will be back one day. Now a new chapter awaits us! So exciting!

A little update, yes I am still alive!

Thursday, July 02, 2009
We have been busy working away on our
Spring/Summer range. A little sneak peek
for you in the pic above. Rachel Richter has
once again produced the most divine
images for us. All will be revealed in
September/October (seems like such a
long way away!). It hasn't been easy
thinking of gorgeous summery clothes
when I have had the heater blarring and my
slippers on constantly. But I am very
excited - the range is looking very sweet indeed.

My blogging absence can also be explained by preparation for Mathilda's Market this
Sunday. This time around, I don't feel as prepared as usual but I am sure it will be fine on
the day - at least I hope so anyway! So if you are in Sydney, come and visit us at St
Ignatius' College, Riverview. Inside the main hall. Tambourine Bay Road, Lane Cove.
Between 9am and 1pm. It's a certainty that I will be picking up a few things for Ivy.

I have also been preoccupied with house hunting. We have put our current place on the
market and now looking for a new home. Our first inspections are this weekend and the
thought of so many people trapsing through the house is a concern! We go to Auction at
the end of the month, which is exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. Just can't
wait for it all to be over so we can find our family home...wherever that may be.

Hope you are all keeping well. Say hi if you are at Mathilda's xxx

yawn yawn and yawn again

Friday, July 10, 2009
Above is a photo taken in Ivy's first few weeks of life. Of course, I don't remember this
photo being taken, because I was asleep. Infact, I don't remember a lot about those first
few weeks – severe sleep deprivation does that to you. I just recall trying to squeeze in
sleep wherever I could find it - it seemed as if neither Ivy nor I could get enough of it. Why
am I showing you this image? It’s because I feel like that now! At 22 months, Ivy has
changed her sleeping habits and I don’t know why. My little “Tizzy Hall” 12 hour sleeper
has turned into a noisy insomniac. We used to be able to put Ivy to bed at 7pm, say
“night night”, tuck her in and close the door. Not a peep until 7am. Now, there are
tantrums before bedtime and regular waking up with screams for “mummy, come in”.
Perhaps she is scared of the dark, something that used to frighten me until my early
twenties!!! It's distressing seeing her so upset. So until this sleeping problem gets sorted
out, I will be yawning more and blogging less...if anyone has any tips, please do share
them. 53

Sold! To the lovely newly married couple...

Monday, July 27, 2009
It's been an extremely hectic couple of months for us on the homefront. Not long after the
sale of our place in Tassie, we have also sold our apartment this past weekend. All this
selling is in aid of buying the family home, which we are finalising this week - hopefully.

I have only ever attended one other auction before, just as a spectator. I can tell you that
being on the other side as the vendor, is extremely nervewracking! Over the past month,
we have had our place open for inspections every weekend. We have been living with
friends in the meantime, to avoid having to tidy up everyday! Ivy is possibly the messiest
child on earth, so this saved us a lot of cleaning. On the day of the auction, the sun was
shining brightly. This was a good omen, since every other day was gloomy. We also
prayed the night before (something I don't do very often) and hubbie did some space
clearing. This involved going into each room of the house with burnt sage, followed by the
chiming of a prayer bowl - whilst thinking positive thoughts. Space clearing may seem like
a hippy drippy thing to do (I must admit I still think it's a bit funny), but we wanted to do
everything possible to achieve a good result...and this we did! We had 5 registered
bidders and sold our place for above the reserve price. Our place is going to a lovely
young couple. The wife especially liked Ivy's room!

We are looking to move about an hour away on the coast, a big sea change for us city
dwellers! We are very excited!!! In the meantime, I have lots of packing to do - as well as
getting organised for our summer production being released in Sep/Oct. Stay tuned...will
try to not to keep you waiting for too long for an update :)

Thank you Mr Postman

Wednesday, July 29, 2009
My mailbox has been neglected a bit lately...that is until today. I couldn't wait to open the
parcels. First up...

54
This handmade doll. How beautiful is she? Currently nameless, the doll was custom
made by the ever so talented Tina from Tiny Concept. It's for Ivy's 2nd birthday coming
up in a few months. She wears a stunning dress made with 30 year old lace. I am trying
to think of a name for her, something old fashioned...any ideas? Tina also surprised me
with a few of her sweet cards. Thank you Tina!!!! You really made my day.

55
Secondly, this vintage rocking chair, an ebay purchase. Incidently, not long ago I asked
Tina for some tips on how to restore a chair - she is pretty deft at these things...(check
out these chair makeovers here and here). So I jumped at the chance to buy this chair in
need of some TLC. I think I will try Tina's 'white treatment'. Not sure when I will find the
time to makeover a chair...anyway...

And lastly, here is a handmade blanket and cushion from Etsy. I love granny squares and
this should satisfy my fixation with these things for now! My husband gave me a funny
look about these items - only because we have more than enough blankets and cushions
in our house!

Unfortunately for hubbie, our move to a bigger house will only fuel the homemaker in me!

A(nother) Chair Makeover...

Friday, August 07, 2009
Chair makeovers seem to be everywhere in blog land...and here is my contribution!
Remember this chair?

58
After some tips from Tina, a lick of paint, a bit of rubbing with sand paper (to give that
worn vintage look), a new cushion and hey presto! A new chair for Ivy. Not all that fancy,
but I am pretty happy with the results. Ivy gave it a test run and nearly knocked herself
out...I think she liked it a bit too much.

3rd Wedding Anniversary

Thursday, August 13, 2009
Hubbie and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary yesterday. I was surprised with a
beautiful hand written letter in the morning. Hubbie even raided my craft supplies and
sewed a rose onto some ribbon. I was impressed...but it immediately made me
suspicious of his inability to sew on a button...hmmm :) We have achieved a lot in 3
years....bought and sold 4 homes (this current one will hopefully be the last for a while),
had a baby, I started Ivy Designs and hubbie has moved up in his field. It hasn't always
been easy. We think the key to our relationship is compromise.
I made a special dinner for us using Stepford Dream's Porcini Mushroom Risotto recipe.
It was outstanding, if I can say so myself. I did alter the recipe a little and added some
bacon, chicken and leeks. The truffle oil was definitely the prized ingredient...I think I am
adddicted. For dessert I made some little chocolate tartlets with fresh cream and
strawberries. We washed it all down with my favourite Broken Wood red wine and Noble
One dessert wine. Yum.

Here are two of my favourite photos from our wedding...

60
Our wedding was featured in the Sydney Morning Herald and Studio Brides Magazine - a
bit embarrassing but a nice keepsake all the same.

We are having a sea change!

Saturday, August 15, 2009
For years, hubbie and I have spoken about our desire to move to a coastal area. Our
lifestyle up until this point, however, meant that city living was a better option. Well, things
have changed and we can finally make that move! We have found a great house about
an hour south of Sydney. It is positioned a couple of minutes drive from the beach and
within walking distance to the village/daycare/school. The house has four bedrooms, two
bathrooms and a gorgeous big back garden. It is in dire need of an update and our "to do
list" is HUGE! This blog might end up turning into a home renovating one with all the
projects we have in mind. Hubbie is in charge of the building and exterior and I am
looking after the interior. Below are two pics of the house. Sorry but I am censoring the
current interior photos. The old owner's hippy decor is far too disturbing for public
viewing! I hope she is not reading this... Anyway, have a great weekend all. I am off to a
30th birthday today and 45th tomorrow.

We plan to add a big deck at the back

We ♥ Shop 4 Kids Magazine...

Monday, August 17, 2009
...and not just because we are in it (Page 106 and 180)! It's just so full of gorgeous kid's
products, great eye candy and very inspiring. I am at an age where all of my friends are
having babies too, so it's very relevant to me :)
Ivy Designs clothing featuring Japanese fabric
A quote from me about kid's storage ideas
In addition to our summer range yet to be released in Sep/Oct, we will have a small
selection of items featuring Japanese fabrics - only available on our website and at our
markets. We won't have the exact items featured in Shop 4 Kids but all similar, in very
limited runs. It was timely then, that I received a box full of beautiful fabric today direct
62
from Japan care of my good friend Jacqui of Mee a Bee. I am so tempted to keep it all for
myself, but I won't :) Mee a Bee has a very popular blog called Blooming in Japan and
also has a shop on the new Trifle website. Whilst we are talking about Japanese and
Japanese-inspired fabric, I would like to point you in this direction: Retro Mummy. Corrie
chooses the most divine fabric, so so charming and cute or should I say "kawaii". I can't
wait to see all the new stock to come.

We also ♥ My Child Magazine

Wednesday, August 19, 2009
My Child Magazine this month features one of our reversible bibs from the summer
collection
Okay, so maybe I am just obsessed with magazines in general - always have been.
Hubbie doesn't get it. He's okay with my collection of magazines related to kids - they can
be classed as "research" (yeah right) but hubbie is not impressed with my new and
rapidly burgeoning pile of home decorating magazines....especially when all I want to do
is paint everything white! I just love lying down and immersing myself in all those lovely
pages. Even with all the free blogs and websites at my fingertips, literally, I still find
myself buying just as many magazines as I used to.

Somebody's turning 2!
Friday, August 28, 2009
My little bundle is turning 2 very soon. I
can't believe how time flies like that. Ivy
shares her birthday with Callum, the son of
one of my oldest friends. Callum and Ivy
were born days apart - they shared the
same birth centre and midwife! Callum's
mum and I are always joking about an
arranged marriage...so I guess it isn't
surprising to our friends that we have
decided to celebrate their birthdays with a
joint party. Also, with our house move, it
makes more sense for us to have it at
someone else's place :)

The theme will be "Western". I've had some fun

organising the invites and other paraphernalia. As
usual, I did find myself getting carried away with the
party planning - especially the entertainment. I quite
liked the idea of pony rides and a "mobile farm" ... but
then I remembered that I wasn't a millionaire. So I
think we will just get the dads to put on their best
cowboy and indian outfits for a little skit! What do you
think?
Here are my bits and pieces so far...

Invites

Included in the goodie bags for the kids will be colouring-in books and crayons

I bought a couple of these from My Messy Room. It is from a company in Denmark called
Rice. You should check out Rice's website - my oh my - so many funky products. An
inspirational story too.

This is the outfit I have purchased for Ivy. The dress and vest are from Australian online
shop Little Brown Mouse. The quality is superb!
I also bought some cups and plates from Sambellina. The party is still a few weeks away
64
but I will be sure to post photos then.

Meet...Olive's friend Pop!
Wednesday, September 02, 2009
If you haven't heard of this children's wear label yet, I assure you, you will. Olive's friend
Pop is a beautiful collection of vintage-inspired clothing for little girls also known as
'nostalgic playwear'. Established by two Aussie friends, with little girls of their own, this
duo has already created a buzz - just check out their facebook page. For the debut range
next winter, I have picked out my favourites including the 'Violet' overalls, 'Ethel' pinafore
and 'Meg' winter bonnet. All of these adorable garments are made to be played in. They
are produced with beautiful, but wearable, durable fabrics...definitely heirloom pieces.

On the move
Sunday, September 06, 2009
Just letting you know that we are moving house and therefore my use of the internet will
be limited for a while - I guess it will be determined by how often I can get to the internet
cafe or if our wireless works. Since we have to wait for the settlement of the new place
and then spend some time doing renovations, my sporadic presence could last for
several weeks/months. Who knows! Anyone wanting to contact Ivy Designs by phone
can do so on 0413774922 (Aust) or +6143774922 (O/S). Until next time, take care

Studio Bambini editorial

Friday, September 18, 2009
Just popping in to show you this nice little bit of editorial in the new Studio Bambini
magazine. This would be my favourite photo taken by the lovely Rachel Richter. It
features two of our signature pinnys coming up for summer. Not long to go now! We've
had a lot of enquiries from retailers recently, wishing to stock Ivy Designs' upcoming
summer collection but unfortunately we are not taking anymore orders. We produce our
67
range in small runs and therefore only able to take on a limited number of stockists (see
stockists list on right column). No mass production or sweatshops here!

Birthday girl
Tuesday, September 22, 2009
My little sweetheart turned 2 today. Time seems to pass so quickly when you have a
child - they grow up so fast...reminding me that I am ageing quickly too! I definitely have
more grey hairs than I did two years ago :) We spent the day at the zoo today. It was a
great day out, we had such fun. We have Ivy's party this weekend. Below is a photo of
hubbie holding Ivy on her birth-day. Posted by ivy designs at 10:19PM (+10:00)

Ivy's Birthday Shindig

Last weekend we celebrated Ivy's 2nd birthday with the ever-popular cowgirl/cowboy
theme (joint party with a close friend). Everything went accordingly - lots of yummy food,
happy kids and everyone (including adults) dressed up in their best "western" outfit.
Luckily by the time we had the party in the afternoon the 2nd dust storm to hit Sydney
had subsided but it was terribly windy...still, the kids didn't seem to notice and Ivy spent
most of the time hiding in a tee pee anyway! Unfortunately my camera died that day (RIP)
so I only have a few photos kindly sent to me by friends.

I was constantly asked what I bought Ivy for her birthday. Well, I used Ivy's birthday as an
excuse to buy a lot of things! I am also in the middle of refurbishing an old writing desk I
picked up from Vinnies. Besides from the Tiny Concept doll, my favourite purchase for Ivy
is this Belle and Boo print (similar to an illustration done for our summer range, to be
revealed).

We already own a few Belle and Boo prints but when I saw this one, I just had to have it!
Not only is it an enchanting and amazingly detailed illustration, it also has a touching
story behind it. Mandy from Belle and Boo created the illustration for the talented
photographer Sheye Rosemeyer after the passing of her beloved daughter, Ava. You can
read about it here. The illustration also struck a cord with me as our current summer
range (launching this weekend) is all about tea parties. Incidently, Sheye also has
another gorgeous daughter named Ivy! I thought all these similarities were uncanny.

Ivy received lots of beautiful gifts (especially from her family in the UK) but I would like to
say a special thank you to a wonderful and loyal customer, Jen from Melbourne. Your gift
was such a lovely surprise. We were very impressed that you managed to choose our
favourite piece from Thula Thula's new range - the white Tulip Shorts. Thanks also to
Naomi from Thula Thula for the special dress you made for Ivy, another lovely surprise.
Thank you xox

Our new summer range has been delivered to most retailers now, so the stock will start
appearing on their shelves in the next week or two. You can view the entire collection on
our website and purchase directly from us here. Remember stock is limited!

This season the theme is Tea Parties. We had a series of adorable illustrations done for
us last year, which now appears on some of our garments. The illustrations are all
encompassing, also appearing on our website, marketing material and other accessories
to come. You may notice that there is a bit of animation happening on our homepage - so
sweet! Thank you to Justin Hevey and Megan Tucker for creating it and making it all
work. We love it.

Also thanks to Jenny from Yunginz for the lovely shoes!

A big thank you to all our gorgeous little models and their mummies too.

Here is a small selection of photos taken for us by Rachel Richter.

During the design process we had this cute poem written for us by Joanna Riche. It
helped to keep us inspired!
Come to the garden,
Sit with your friends,
Chase all the fairies,
To the rainbows end.
Put on your dresses,
The Party is here,
Time to be happy,
With Laughter and cheer.
Drink crystal bubble,
From lemonade fountains
With pink fairy cakes,
And marshmallow mountains.
The birds from the trees,
They all will join in,
And sing their songs loudly,
70 For you to hear ring.
So come to the garden,
Come and have fun,
Dance and be silly,
Under the sun.

We are thrilled to have the following new stockists on board for summer. Please contact

Ivy's Room Tour

Tuesday, October 13, 2009
When Amanda over at Swish and Swanky asked us
to participate in her kid's decor series, we were more
than happy to oblige! It's actually really flattering to be
a part of Amanda's site, since she features some
pretty inspiring places! Our photos were taken a few
months ago before the recent move. We are currently
still in temporary acommodation whilst the house is
being renovated...yes, this move is taking a long time!
I am dreading the thought of not only recreating Ivy's
room at the new house but also the rest of the house.
I am also nervous about settling Ivy into a new day
care...and know there will be some sleepless nights
coming up as we all get to know our new home.
Anyway, more than anything I am EXCITED about
moving to a house, in a small town by the sea.

Mathilda's Market
Friday, October 30, 2009
The fabulous Mathilda's Market is on this Sunday (Nov 1st) in Sydney...but we WON'T be
there this time, simply because we don't have enough stock! Please do visit our retailers'
72 stands though, as they should be bringing along some of our range:
My Messy Room
Tippie Toes Petite Couture
Amelie's Room

On the 15th November in Canberra, Handle With Care Baby Boutique will have a large
selection of our range.

Goodluck to all our fellow stallholders. Have a great day all, it's always so much fun!
Sorry we can't be there to catch up this time xxx

Coco and Ginger

Wednesday, December 09, 2009
Here I am! Sorry friends, I have neglected you :p Renovating an old house does not
leave much time for work or play. I will have some renovation photos to show you soon.
In the meantime, check out Coco and Ginger. I fell in love with this Aussie label a few
months ago and bought a few pieces for Ivy, including the one above (I am a sucker for
hand embroidery!) Can you imagine how surprised and thrilled I was to open a package
filled with more of Coco and Ginger's gorgeous designs? Thank you Saffron. You are
gem xox
