Om Swastiastu...
Indonesia is a land in the Far East where the sun shines brightly almost all year long, and
is home to much cultural diversity. And to say that it is rich with natural beauty is surely an
understatement from hidden pristine beaches to hectares of rice elds, from lush jungles
to massive lakes, from various sea creatures to the top of the mountains higher than the
clouds. Not to mention the history that goes all the way back to the glorious kingdoms of
hundreds, if not thousands, of years ago.
There are a lot of reasons for tourists and travelers to fall in love with Indonesia one
of them being the friendly local people with their great sense for art, which you can see
in their traditional fabrics and costumes like Batik, Songket, and Kebaya. Flip through our
COVER

CRAFT & CULTURE to see the history of these textiles and costumes, and how they have
now become a part of our modern lives. A photo collection by Made Yudistira in FOTO
FOLIO will also take you to see a number of traditional dances with intricate costumes
and makeup.
In this issue we will take you exploring for all that is truly Indonesian in Ubud as well.
Get pampered with Manis Klepon, a signature treatment at the DaLa Spa in the Alaya
Resort Ubud, which is inspired by klepon, an Indonesian traditional snack nd out all
about it in INVITE & INDULGE. Stay at the newly opened Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton
Reserve that will let you absorb the positive atmosphere of the lush greenery and also let
you learn about the Balinese rice culture, which we reveal in REST & RELAXATION.
When you are visiting Jakarta, dont forget to catch a performance by Wayang Orang
Bharata, a Javanese human puppet show that our contributor Agi R. Andante shares in
CAPITAL CORNER. And if you are looking for more untouched beaches in Indonesia,
head to the Selayar Islands that lie south of South Sulawesi nd out about our adventure
in this pristine paradise in BEYOND BALI.
So, we wish you happy times while discovering all that is unique in this archipelago
and, of course, welcome to Indonesia!

A HOLY CEREMONY
On a beautiful Saturday morning,
the Plataran Ubud Hotel & Spa held
a sacred Melaspas ceremony by the

traditional Balinese ceremony to clean

to bring prosperity and wealth. This
ceremony felt even more sacred with
a number of holy performances, one
of them being Rejang Dewa, a sacred
