Weekly Literacy Schedule for the Week of October 5th-9th

Bonus Work this Week
Have you finished EVERYTHING on your schedule this week? Good for you! Here are some
bonus actives you may want to try.

Science: Think about the vernal pool. If you were a creature who lived their what would you want
visitors to know. In your creative writing journal write a story or letter from the perspective of one of its
inhabitants. (If you want even more of a challenge, try adding as many vocabulary words as possible.

Social Studies: Weve been taking about maps and map skills. On graph paper (see Mrs. Green for
paper) Create a birds eye view of our classroom. Be sure to add a compass rose and a map key. (If
you want more of a challenge create latitude and longitude lines with degrees. Then Write out some
coordinate points for classmates to find certain objects or locations on your map)

Math: In the math journal section of your math notebook answer the following question. Use numbers,
picture or words:
Farmer Joe counts 48 heads and 134 legs on his farm of chickens and dogs. How many
chickens and dogs are there on the farm?

Writing: We heard the story Nothing Ever Happens on 90th Street. Think about what happens in your
neighborhood. Write an exciting fictional story that could be based on truth about your neighborhood.
Helpful Tips.(Use the advice your learned as a prewriting strategy about research. Youve discussed this in Mrs.
Brooks class with the roller coaster essay and during literacy when we discussed Elizabeth George Speare, the
author of Sign of the Beaver. These ideas should help you research information for writing realistic and historical
fiction books.)

!
Vocabulary/Spelling: Using your lesson 1 and lesson 2 Elements of Vocabulary Words find the following:

!
2 words from our list that have an open syllable
!
2 words that have a closed syllable
!

2 words that have a vowel team
