Administration Leadership

As a principal, there are going to be certain skills that as a principal should be exhibited.
A principals job, I feel is never done. They are constantly working to ensure that the school is
improving. Being a leader, I have seen my personal skills grow and every day I am improving.
Looking over Domain III, I feel I have grown in both competency 008 and 009. I have strong
areas in both sections, though I feel I have grown the most in competency 008.
Competency 008 covers being an effective leader and manager in relation to campus
budgeting, personnel, resources utilization, financial management, and technology use. I believe
I have grown in areas regarding laws, policies, purchasing, and grants. These areas were my
weakness but as I have grown and become more familiar with my school and district I have
come to better understand these certain areas. The laws and policies are crucial in the school
atmosphere. The staff, students, and families have to understand they school, district and state
system. Another area where I have seen personal growth is managing campus priorities, and
implementing plans for using technology. It is important as a leader to ensure that the staff is
aware of the school end goal. This will ensure that each teacher, student, and parent understand
their roles and can be sure that the students and school succeed. A campus priories is to teach the
students, to give them every possible tool to succeed, and to be a safe learning environment. A
principals role is to be a role model to her/ his staff so that they can lead their staff to success.
For technology, this is something that is constantly changing and we need to be sure to change
with it and keep up with the time. Some students are not introduced to technology as easily as
other, my students are an example. Most of our school students come from low-income families
and are not able to work with computers or iPad at home, so when they come to school, it is
important that they are introduced to the technology. Our priority is to be sure that they can
succeed when they leave our school and making sure that they are technology oriented is
important.
I feel that as a leader I still need to grow in competency 008. Though it was my strongest
competency, I am aware that I need to grow in understanding and developing campus budget. I
know that being funded is an important and I want to educate myself on all matter. I want to be
sure that I am aware of the procedures, policy, and areas that compromise with funds and budget.
In competency 009, I want to learn and be familiar with how to implement strategies that enables
the school physical plant. I am more knowledgeable about academics then the physical aspect of
the school. As a leader, I understand that a principal needs to be familiar with every part of the
school, inside and out.
I have grown so much in a short amount of time. I am aware that I have so much more to
grow and I look forward to it. My goal is that I will be able to say that I am 100% comfortably
with explaining and covering all competencies.
