Shavuot - Pentecost
Lev 23:15, 16, 21, 22 and from the morrow after the Sabbath, from the day that you
brought the sheaf of the w ave offering, you shall count for yourselves: seven completed
Sabbaths. v16 Until the morrow after the seventh Sabbath you count fifty days, then
you shall bring a new grain offering to . v21 and on this same day you shall proclaim a
Holy Convocation for yourselves, you do no servile w ork on it a law forever in all your
dw ellings throughout your generations. v22 and w hen you reap the harvest of your land do
not completely reap the corners of your field when you reap, and do not gather any
gleaning from your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the stranger. I am your
Elohim.
The start of the count of the Omer is taken from the day after the first Sabbath following the end of
unleavened bread that is, the 26th day of the first month (Aviv). This is the day that w as observed by the
Zadokite priests for the w aving of the first fruits. This calculation is as variance w ith the tw o practices common
today. The Rabbinical calculation starts its Omer count from the second day of unleavened bread the first day
being a Sabbath, w hilst most Messianic communities start their count from the day after the w eekly Sabbath
occurring w ithin the w eek of unleavened bread. The calendar author is of the opinion that the Zadokite Temple
priests w ould not be administering incorrectly particularly considering Yahowahs glory was present in the first
temple. Consequently, the Solar and not the lunar calendar is believed to be the correct calendar for worship.
The 15th of the 3rd Month, being Shavuot, is a very significant day, in that Yahow ah made the Covenants w ith
Noah, Abraham, Yitshaq and Yaaqov all on this day the day of Shavuot. Further to this, it is also the day that
the Torah w as given on Mount Sinai, and the day that the Ruach haKodesh (Holy Spirit) descended upon the
earth as promised by Yahow sha haMaschiyach.
