class into four quarters. Each quarter contains four to five major concepts that has to be covered
and below they describe how long each concept should take by weeks. For example, World War
I, Russian Revolution, World War II, and Imperialism should take the instructor nine weeks to
cover.

minute Breathing Meditation Audio Clip. Once finished; lead a class discussion how it made
them feel.
Did it soothe you?
Did you like it?
Did it relieve stress?
Do you think it will help you sleep better?
Discuss with the students how many hours of sleep they get, how do they feel when they dont
get enough sleep, how do they feel when they get enough, do they feel they do better in
school/sports/other activities when they sleep more?
Discuss with the students the appropriate amount of hours they need at their age, why they need
that many hours, the sleep cycle, REM. After discussing those topics; the instructor will ask the
students if they feel the guided meditation will help them get the 8-10 hours of sleep their age
needs.
Sun Safety
Content Area: 10th Grade World History
Topic: Exploration
Materials: Navigation on Wood Navigational Tools Video
The class will discuss the European and American explorations during the 15th-17th centuries. The
explorers roamed the world by boat and didnt have the modern day technologies to navigate.
Explorers had to resort to extreme means to navigate. The instructor will show the Navigational
Tools Video, the video contains information on back staff and cross staff which requires the
navigator to look directly into the sun. After the video the instructor will ask them if this was a
safe method of navigating. Why is it unsafe?

Navigators had to be on a boat for months on end which means major exposure to the sun.
Project S.A.F.E.T.Y. recommends that instructors should focus on skin cancer with high school
students, so the instructor will lead a class discussion on if the extended amount of exposure on
the boats led to harmful results. Do we face these problems today? How? End the mini lesson on
a ticket out the door having the students write how they would prevent skin cancer.
Environmental Health
Content Area: 10th Grade World History
Topic: Industrial Revolution and Pollution
Materials: Industrial Revolution Video
Major Pollution Source Handout
During the second quarter the class will cover the Industrial Revolution. Before the instructor
shows the video ask the students what they feel what the industrial revolution led to. What are
the pros and cons of an industrial revolution? Show the video.
Hand out Major Pollution Sources handout; ask the students to circle the source they believe
affects their hometown the most. To end the lesson the students will discuss with the class what
they circled, what they feel affects it the most, and what could they or the city do to help fix the
pollution problem?
