Class Syllabus and Guidelines

World History I
Greetings
Welcome to World History I!
In World History this semester we are going to be learning about the roots of civilization as well
as some of the greatest and most exciting times in the world. We will be taking a trip around the
world exploring these civilizations.
I challenge all of you to work very hard in class this year. Your hard work will show positive
results on both your report card and in your daily lives. I wish the best of luck to all of you this
year!
Materials Needed
Students will be required to have notebook, notes, pen, pencil, and any other materials required
for participation in class that day.
Classroom Rules
Be prepared for class.
Ask questions and make helpful suggestions.
Give your best at all times.
Ask for help when your best comes up short.
Volunteer
Do your homework.
Show your manners.
Treat others, yourself, and school property with respect and dignity
In addition, students are expected to follow the school discipline code.
Classroom Procedures
Here are some daily procedures that must be followed in the classroom.
When..
Entering the classroom- Please enter in an appropriate and quiet manner.
You are tardy- Enter the classroom without disturbing the class.
Leaving the classroom- Leave in the same manner as you entered.

The bell rings- I will dismiss you and not the bell.
You have a question- Please raise your hand if you have a question.
You need a pencil- Borrow one from a friend or ask me.
Sharpening your pencil- Without disturbing the class, quietly go over to the pencil sharpener.
When done sharpening the pencil, return to seat in same manner.
Turning in papers- Papers with either be collected in class or please place papers on my desk.
You do not understand something- Please ask a question, I am here to help you.
Responding to my request for attention- Please listen to directions first time they are given.
Face forward in seat quietly and pay attention to lesson being delivered.
You are absent- Please get any make up work from previous day into me ASAP, also I will give
any other assignments that were missed from previous day.
Someone knocks on door- Stay quietly in seat and on task while I see who it is.
You need help or a conference- Talk to me after class and we can set something up. I will be
available after school and during my planning time.
Progress reports- Along with the standard quarterly reports, reports will be sent home via mail
or student randomly. Parents must sign and students must return back to me.
I am delivering a lesson- Please sit attentively in your chair and take notes in your notebook.

Grades will be based on:

Class Participation
It is the responsibility of the student to make any arrangements to make up work.

I would like to welcome you and your child to a new school year here at Washington and Lee.
Today was your students first day in my class. I am sure that both of us expect the best from
your childs success in school. Please take some time with your child to read the attached course
outlines, descriptions, and rules of my classroom.
This is my fourth year in Westmoreland County and I look forward to working with your child as
well as getting to know you, so we can both work together to ensure your childs success in the
classroom.
