EFFECTS OF LAND POLLUTION

Background
The
Jordan
Disposal
Facility
(JDF)
in
Tanod,
Bugnay,
Jordan,
Guimaras
was
formerly owned by a
Jew
named
CN
Hodges. The land
area
measures
a
total of 110 hectares
but because of the
failure in the tax
payment, 4 hectares
were bargained. In
2000, the land had
been turned to CARP.
Now, JDF is under

PROBLEM STATEMENT
During rainy days, the garbage are

being drifted by the rainwater to the

farmlands which causes a poor harvest.
There is a rapid insect development
and a spread of foul odor when garbage
in the disposal area are left uncovered
for some time which also affects the
nearby households.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Temporary fence which surrounds the lower area.
Construction of canals to provide a detour on the flow of

liquid wastes away from the farm and households.

Plant trees, preferably madre de kakaw, on the sites

perimeter to avoid land slide.

Maintain and secure the area from illegal pickers.

Government solution:

There are two buildings being established for the waste

segregation (MRF) where biodegradables are to be sent to the
Eco Park which a three-hectare land and the nonbiodegradables will be recycled through a process formulated
by a new machine they have.

EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION

Background
The City of Iloilo comprises a
total land area of 7,834 hectares.
Though excluded from the
province of Iloilo, it remains as
the capital of the province. Its
population has increased from
366,391 persons (as of 2000) to
424, 619 persons (as of 2010)
based on the 2010 Census of
Population and Housing (CPH).
Iloilo City is considered as a
highly urbanized city in the
province of Iloilo. Iloilo Citys
mode of transportation is mostly
of jeepneys, metered taxis and
tricycles which travel within the
city perimeter. Big jeepneys,
buses, and vans link Iloilo City to
the rest of the province and the
rest of Panay.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Exhaust from vehicles leads to rising temperatures and

affects human health.

RECOMMENDATION
Use energy wisely.
Companies must invent cleaner or nature friendly fuels

like biodiesel, bioethanol and others.

Walk or ride a bicycle to travel on short distances.
Use a face mask to avoid inhaling exhaust air.
