Application software is a set of computer programs designed to permit the user to
perform a group of coordinated functions, tasks, or activities. Application software cannot run on itself but is dependent on system software to execute.
Types of application software
Computer Games
Computer Games are video games played on
a personal computer rather than a dedicated video game console or arcade machine. Their defining characteristics include a lack of any centralized controlling authority, a greater degree of user control over the video-gaming hardware and software used and a generally greater capacity in input, processing, and output.
Spreadsheets
Spreadsheet is an interactive computer
application program for organization, analysis and storage of data in tabular form. Spreadsheets developed as computerized simulations of paper accounting worksheets. The program operates on data represented as cells of an array, organized in rows and columns. Each cell of the array is a model viewcontroller element that may contain either numeric or text data, or the results of formulas that automatically calculate and display a value based on the contents of other cells.
Word Processors
Word Processor is an electronic device
or computer software application that performs the task of composition, editing, formatting, and sometimes printing of documents.
Databases
Database is an organized collection of data. It is the
collection of schemes, tables, queries, reports, views and other objects. The data is typically organized to model aspects of reality in a way that supports processes requiring information, such as modeling the availability of rooms in hotels in a way that supports finding a hotel with vacancies.
Web Browser
Web Browser (commonly referred to as a browser) is
a software application for retrieving, presenting, and traversing information resources on the World Wide Web. An information resource is identified by a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI/URL) and may be
a web page, image, video or other piece of content.
Hyperlinks present in resources enable users easily to navigate their browsers to related resources.
