Assessment, Age and stage outcomes:


Predicting what the findings of an investigation might be. (ACSIS231,
ACSIS232)
Using a variety of ways to honestly and accurately communicate ideas,
explanations and processes, including multimodal texts, labelled diagrams,
as well as written and oral factual texts as appropriate. (ACSIS093,
ACSIS107)
Research the key features of the planets of the solar systems and compare
how long each takes to orbit the sun.
Identify and summarise key ideas and information from guest speakers eg.
Note-taking or digital technologies.
Uses a range of software, including word processing programs, learning new
functions as required to create texts. (ACELY1707, ACELY1717)
Size, Special Needs, Genders Balance, Number of Students, Teachers,

Age and stage outcomes, Ability spread and Learning Participants, Interests:
There are 25 students in the Year 5 class, aged between 10-12 years old. 15
of which are male and 10 which are female. Within the class there are three
students with a diagnosed disability including, ADHA, autism, delayed
learning disability and mental health. Although these students do require
more specialised help there is always an SSLO in the classroom which
assists with engaging students and monitoring students behaviour.
Majority of students meet the stage 3 outcomes and are considered average
across the state. However, there are two students who often require
extension work, and one that requires alter work to cater for a learning
disability.
Students have a range of interests including learning new facts, developing
programs for other students and answering and researching questions.
Socio-economic status, Community, Ethnic:
Students come from the local farming area. Majority of the students are
from farms and have grown up there their entire lives. A small groups of
students live in a local town 20km away. There are a number of families that
come from low socio economic families and backgrounds. Many of these are
indigenous students that prior to coming to school had no social support or
interaction.
ICT Resources , Experiences in ICT:
The ICT resources are important factor within the sequence of lessons. The
use of the computer and internet facilities throughout the tasks build

students ICT ability whilst developing their knowledge and understanding


about space and the moon.
Students have had many opportunities to work on the computers accessing
the internet. The program that is been used and the website students are
extremely aware of how to use as they have used it for a range of topics and
KLAs in the past.
