The 11th Ward WWII Monument Committee received a City of Troy Neighborhood Improvements Grant for plantings and upkeep at the 11th Ward Monument
(located on 3rd street between Jefferson and Adams Streets) and the 8th Ward
Monument (located on 3rd St. at the corner of Division and 3rd Streets). Work
was complete in time for the Memorial Day Holiday. Thank you to the City
of Troy for supporting the proposal.

We have Troy in Bloom and the City of Troy Neighborhood Improvement Grant to thank for the planting of the
pots at the public market on Hill Street.
Marie Gavazzi has taken
over where Claire Davis
left off with the Troy in
Bloom program. Marie
was helped by Andrea
Daley to get the job
done. They planted 8
pots in and around the
Public Market. If you
have one near your
house, help us out and
water them when you
can.

Dear Friends of Little Italy,
On behalf of Josephs House & Shelter, I am so grateful for the proceeds we received from the
Annual Stick It to Hunger Stick Ball Tournament held earlier this month at the Little Italy Marketplace.
The tournament itself is always a great deal of fun; opportunities for team building, as well as
getting to meet more people from the community.
We are most grateful however for the generous donation of food and money to help us feed the
homeless families who stay in our emergency shelter on Ferry Street. Your efforts resulted in
more than $15K of donated food and funds for our pantries. Thats an extraordinary help to us!
Particular thanks goes to the Friends of Little Italy, and Rocco, Michael & Matthew DeFazio
for organizing the event. Thanks are also extended to ARC of Rensselaer County, Troy Fire
Department, and Troy Postal Carriers for their overwhelming donations of food. Thanks to
Troy High School, Catholic High School and LaSalle for their participation. Thanks to everyone else who contributed and participated in this fine event!
With Gratitude,
Kevin OConnor
Executive Director, Josephs House & Shelter, Inc.

Letter Carriers Win Stickball Golden Bat
