JEANINE NICARICO CHILD ADVOCACY AND FAMILY CENTER DEDICATION

REMARKS FOR CHAIRMAN DAN CRONIN

Tuesday September 17, 2013
12 Noon

Good Afternoon.

I would like to welcome all of you here today for this deeply meaningful
dedication. Many of you were here exactly 14 months ago today, on July 17th
2012. I remember it was a scorching hot summer day when we broke ground
for this facility.

Tom and Pat Nicarico, Jeanines parents - thank you for being here with your
daughters, Kathy and Chris. We admire your familys strength and your
commitment to your daughters special legacy.

Going forward today and every day, this center will honor and remember the
life of a 10 year old girl with an endearing dimpled smile and sparkling eyes.
Her name and the family name you share becomes a legacy, a beacon of light
in times of darkness, instilling hope and dignity in each child that is reached
here, and each case where justice is served.

I am particularly humbled and proud to be a part of this ceremony, not
because I am the Chairman, but because I am a father. Like most fathers, I
cherish my daughters and I often think of the courage displayed by the
Nicaricos, and the beautiful way they remember their daughter through the
Jeanine Nicarico Memorial Literacy Fund. Today we are all here to witness a
special addition to the legacy you created for her. (Pause to change the
subject)

It is difficult to fathom the unthinkable, that a childs innocence and even
their life can be taken by a violent criminal. Violence against children can
take place in the nicest neighborhoods, the safest environments, the most
unlikely places, children are at risk, they need our support, and protection.

This beautiful building is state of the art. The nurturing spirits of the people
who will be here every day, will gently reach out to children who have been
victimized and traumatized. They will have the critical role of guiding them
toward coping, and healing. The outstanding work being done here will help
lead to justice.

The former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela said something that
applies so well here today-- He said: Safety and security dont just happen,
they are the result of collective consensus and public investment. We owe our
children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and
fear.
