Advantages of Poly-phase over Single-phase system

Conducting Wires: A poly-phase system requires a less transmission
line than a single-phase system for transmitting the same amount of
power at the same voltage.
Power/Voltage Output: A poly-phase system of the same frame size
as a single-phase system gives higher power/voltage output than
the single-phase system. A 3-phase motor gives 1.5times the value
of a single-phase of the same size.
Torque: Poly-phase motors have uniform torques whereas most of
the Single-phase motors have pulsating torques. -Starting and
Efficiency: Poly-phase inductors are self-starting and more efficient
whereas a single-phase inductor is not self-starting and is less
efficient.

Power Factor: The power factor of a single phase motor is less than a poly-phase
motor of the same rating.
