General Course Assessments

Multiple Choice Self-Tests: These assessments will measure general
conceptual information found on the lower levels of Blooms Taxonomy. This
includes being able to state definitions, key concepts, and other foundational
information.
Participation (Class attendance): This assessment will count for 10% of the
final grade for this course. This consists of attending the 3 required class
meetings.
Mid-Term Product (dishcloth): This assessment will have students review and
use the stitches and techniques covered up to this point in the course (how to
start, turning, chain, slip stitch, slip knot, single crochet, and double crochet).
It will demonstrate that students have a deep and thorough understanding of
the course material thus far. Students will complete this assessment by
recording themselves completing the assignment and then uploading and
submitting the file.
In-Practice Blog (with photo/video): This activity is intended to allow
students to reflect on the learning process. In each blog students will address
anything helpful, positive, or any challenges they encountered during the
weeks lesson. Additionally, it will be required for each student to upload a
video or sequence of photos of themselves completing the weeks assigned
stitch or technique. By requiring a photo or video of the weeks work it is
intended to help the instructor make sure students are not falling behind on
their work as well as giving the instructor essential feedback so that they can
interject if needed.
Extra Credit Blog Responses: This assessment will allow students to review
and respond to two classmates blog postings each week for extra credit.
Students will have the chance to offer helpful tips or strategies regarding the
weeks topic, answer questions fellow students may have, or simply give
helpful feedback. This will provide an opportunity for peer-to-peer
communication.
Pattern Composition and Analysis: This assessment will require students to
use knowledge learned about reading patterns to create a written pattern.
Students will not create the item, but they will read and analyze a peers
created pattern.
Final Product (potholder): This assessment will have the students review and
use the stitches and techniques covered in the course to create a final
product- potholder. This will demonstrate that students have a deep and
thorough understanding of the course material.
