Science

Grade:

Goals/Objectives/Standards:
Students will be able to use the information they learned through a unit and present that information to the
class.
Students will research the four habitats learned in class over Interdependence of life unit. Students will
present learned knowledge in a power point presentation using audio recordings and video created by
students. Teacher will model tools being used in instruction.
CCSS Science 3.3 describe and use models that trace the life cycles of different plants and animals and
discuss how they differ from species to species
CCSS Science 3.4 explain cause and effect relationships between nonliving and living components within
ecosystems; and explain individual response to the changes in the environment including identifying
differences between inherited, instinctual, and learned behaviors
NETS standard 3.C Evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness to
specific tasks
CCSS Technology 1.2 collect data and information using digital tools
CCSS Technology 3.2 use various digital media to share information and tell stories

Timeline/structure of lesson: 45-50 minutes

Time
Opening/Framing the Lesson/Introduction/Early Assessment:
10
minutes

Students will be assigned into four different groups. Each

group will be responsible for creating a Power Point slide
show regarding one of the habitats learned in class. Each
group will include types of organisms, what they use for
energy, the environment (climate, precipitation, and
landscape), New information learned in their research, audio
recordings of different animal sounds found in their
habitats, and video created by students describing their
habitat.

Monitor/Feedback
Before beginning of lesson,
remind students of
computer/ iPad etiquette
and using time efficiently.
If students are participating
well, let them assign roles
for each group: Leader,
audio recorder, video
recorder, researchers, and
treasurer.
Assign groups if class has
not been following
directions.

The Lesson Structure: Activities

Students will use Power Point to create a slide show
examining the four Habitats learned in class (Ocean,
Forrest, Desert, and Grassland). Students will work in
groups (four groups total). Each group will be responsible
for creating the power point for their assigned Habitat.

Students will have prior

knowledge of the Video
Maker app and MS Power
Point

Each slide show must incorporate a video created by the

students and audio recordings from their iPad. Each group
will incorporate information about the organisms living (or
non-living) in the habitat.
Jobs:
Leader: The leader will keep the group on task as well as
keep track of the time. When the group has a question, the
leader is the student to ask if the group has not come up
with an answer on their own.
Researchers will use the online encyclopedia to research
information about the animals that live in their habitat, the
climate, and the landscape of the habitat.
Videos incorporated into slide show will include: one
youtube video and one created by students using models
to demonstrate information learned about habitat.
Audio can either be students imitating animal sounds or
recordings of animals, students decide which.
Treasurer: The treasurer will put together the MS power
point slide show and include all data researched, any video
recorded and all sounds that go on the power point.
(all students will help create video and sounds if needed)
