teacher has displayed the students projects on the wall, and also has many
inspirational quotes and artwork posted around the classroom. I feel the
students have a liking to the teacher, they have a mutual respect for each
other. The students seemed to be very engaged in classroom discussion.
2. The physical environment of the classroom starts will an older large white
room. The teachers desk is located across from the door on the right hand
side of the room. There is a projector screen, along with a wall of white
boards. There is also a wall designated for all of the students projects and art
work. There is also a wall that displayed many inspirational quotes, along
with a beautiful American flag.
3. The average student makeup of the class included mainly Latino and
Caucasian males. There were 25 students in which 15 were males and 10
were females. There was also a student who was in a wheel chair.

1. There was no daily or weekly posted schedule. The teacher just instructed to
the class each day what they would be doing.
2. Instruction was delivered to the class as a whole. Although, the teacher does
many group activities in which he delivers instruction to each small group.
3. The teacher had a student-centered approach to learning.

and kinesthetic. An example of his visual sensory is that he would often use
pictures on the projector to help describe what he was talking about.
5. The students seemed very engaged in the lessons. They were asking and
answering questions along with participating in the discussions. There was
also a lot of eye contact made by the students.

he transitions from activity to activity. They are very effective transitions.

to be very effective the first time stated. If not, he will use Ill wait which
shows the students that it is time to listen. He rarely uses light flickers.

talking issues,

the teachers desk in the front. This allows all students to see the board
and the teacher.

Assignment 4 (School/Classroom Culture)

1. The physical characteristics of Basic High school include an older almost
outdated school with a very small parking lot, a large gated field, 6 portables,
a second floor section, and very well landscaped. Inside the colors white and
blue is everywhere. The school has an interesting layout. Most of the
classrooms have no windows, white walls, and blue carpet. There theme is
wolf so there is paw prints painted all over the school.
2. The school has a very great culture. Some signs that were posted around the
school were, Basic Pride, Graduation for all, and Learning is fun. There
was a large hall of fame in the center of the school were trophies from all
clubs and teams were located. There were many posters of clubs such as
Decca, band, and dance. The school had an interesting layout with the deans
office in the cafeteria. The administrative office and library was located in the
front of the school with all the classrooms behind it. The classrooms were all
labeled with painted room numbers above the door. The staff and faculty
were all very friendly and seemed excited to be a part of the school. Inside
the class room I noticed working together to learn. Outside the classroom I
noticed students walking in large groups, and many hung out in the court
yard.
3. The culture of the classroom was very nice. The teacher had some
expectations posted on the walls that included learn, inquire, care, reflect,
and communicate. I could tell he really wants the kids to learn because he
will stay on one subject until they understand. Most students participate, in
exception to students who seem to have disciplinary issues. The interactions
between the teacher and students were very respectful.

Assignment 6 (Observing a student)

1. A student who I observed was a female in 11 th grade. The assignment was to
read the article and then answer questions at the end. She seemed very
engaged and responded well. She read the article and then began to answer

the questions. She was the first student to finish. She seemed to have a
verbal linguistic learning style.

Assignment 7

During my 10 hour Field Observation assignment, I learned a lot about becoming a teacher.

I observed and learned so much about the students such as classroom participation, engagement,
and reactions. I realized that teachers have a truly difficult, yet rewarding job. I also came to
realization about how much a schools environment can affect the students. For example, the
posters about graduation can influence a student to strive for the best. This observation has better
prepared me to understanding the teaching profession by allowing me to observe students, and
interviewing a teacher. The observation relates to the text information in class because I was able
to take the knowledge I learned, such as student learning styles, and apply it to a real situation.
Specific ideas on teaching that I will remember to include in my classroom with be that every
student learns differently, therefore I will have to use several teaching techniques. I look forward
to the day I will have my own classroom.
