I would certainly recommend studying at MMU, not only

is the campus well laid out and conducive to learning,
but the support from lecturers and staff simply adds to a
comfortable, almost family-like atmosphere. I use MMU
for my personal development and learning now and will
continue to do so in the future.

Accolade Wines is the largest seller of wine by volume

in the UK and Australia and the 4th largest in the world.
They are owners of some of the worlds favourite brands
- Hardys, Kumala, Echo Falls and Banrock. My role is to
create, implement and manage the marketing activity,
including events, within the main supermarket chains. The
role itself is the link between sales and marketing and my
main objective is to ensure that company brand plans and
strategies are activated across key retailers.
Having the opportunity to work with Heineken
International so early in my career as a Brand Ambassador,
after winning a Heineken assessment centre in my final
year of university, made a significant difference in the
direction and progression that has been open to me. It has
opened doors that many graduates could only wish for.
Having one of the largest beer companies on my CV meant
other businesses wanted my expertise in their team and I
went from no interviews to many. As this project had such
an impact in my career, I have embedded a similar project
within my current company, we now offer student projects
across key UK universities each of which benefit from work
experience at the end. I hope that every students I help
does the same thing and eventually students will find the
hunt for a job slightly easier.

Studying

Online
Moodle
system
providing
access to
personalised
timetable

The academic year is divided into three terms,

starting in September. If you enrol on a full-time
route you can expect to devote around 35 hours
to study each week; if you enrol for a part-time
route the hours of study are significantly less,
and spread typically over six years.

Each year you will study four units of

30 credits each. These will be made up
of core units for your chosen course and
option units that you can select from an
extensive range of titles.
Timetabled classes
Teaching techniques vary from
formal lectures to practical sessions,
presentations and group
activities, supported by the use of
our online Moodle system which will
also give you access to your own
personalised timetable so you know
where youre supposed to be and
when. You may find that this is a big
shift from 6th Form and A level study:
the emphasis at University is on your
management of your working week,
though we are here to help and guide
you.
Assessment
The range of assessment in these
courses reflects the nature of skills
required to work in business and
management. At Year one and two,
assessments include group work,
presentations, and the production of
various forms of written work including
essays, reports, seminar papers and
more extended pieces in the form
of projects and journal articles. At
Year three, you will be required to
complete final examinations and other
assessments, as appropriate.

Studying abroad
Participating in an exchange programme
is a great way to experience another
culture, country and education system.
On many courses we offer high quality
programmes with institutions in many
parts of the world, including the USA,
Canada, Australia and across Europe.
Developing skills
It isnt just about study. Many students
tell us it is a life-changing experience
as they make new friends, explore new
places and sample a different lifestyle.
Many employers value time spent on
exchange programmes. It shows them
you are adaptable, confident and not
afraid to try new things.
Building networks
The departments strong links with
business professionals and national and
international employers provide many
opportunities for you to develop your
professional networks through guest
lectures, specialist events and talks.
Previous professional lectures have
included Mercedes Benz, Heineken
International, Magenta Moon
Employment Consultants, Up and Under
Group, Halliwell Homes, Above Line
3D Marketing, Utility Warehouse, Bare
Bones Marketing and South Cheshire
Chamber of Commerce. We also provide
you with the opportunity to visit a range
of local businesses for a presentation
and tours, such as Virgin Trains, Crewe
Lyceum Theatre, Crewe Hall and
Rookery Hall Hotel and Spa.

Were
delighted to offer a
wide range of international study
experiences through Erasmus+,
a yearly International Academic
Week when guests from
different countries come over to
lecture on campus, Busidays
for bite-size experiences abroad
in business, and worldwide
exchange programmes. Students
enthuse about the academic,
cultural and social benefits of
international study opportunities
and we encourage them all
to participate, as well as
welcoming students from around
the world to our campus.

Our long-standing relationships with

prominent local employers, such as the
South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce,
Virgin Trains Talent Academy, Up and
Under Group, Crewe Hall and Swansway
Garages enables us to access additional
resources for our students, including
guest lectures and master classes, company visits, shortterm placements and opportunities to network.
For the past seven years, the Department has been proud
to sponsor and judge the Employer of the Year Award,
which is one of several categories in the annual South
Cheshire Chambers Business Awards. This has enabled
us to raise the profile of some of the best companies within
the South Cheshire region. We are also very fortunate to
have the engagement of Crewe Hall and Rookery Hall Hotel
and Spa in sponsoring prizes for our final year students, in
their pursuit to identify the Best Large Company to Work
For, as part of one of their assignments. This cements
the relationship that we have with local employers and
demonstrates their support for preparing our students for
life as Business and Management graduates.

Research and enterprise

The Cheshire campus is home to
some of the most successful research
teams in the University and provides
extensive opportunities for our
students and external organisations.

Dusan Do Van

BA (Hons) Business Management

Dusan spent one semester at the
Dania Academy of Higher Education
in Viborg, Denmark as part of the
Erasmus Exchange programme
The Erasmus exchange mobility was
undoubtedly one of the most unique
and life changing experience for me.
It was full of adventures, learning
and fun. Having the opportunity to
represent MMU in Denmark was a
privilege for me and it also motivated
me to do my best.
It increased my confidence; I feel
I would be able to adapt and work,
study or live in any country in the
world. I would definitely recommend
going on this exchange experience.
You will not only learn about this
new amazing culture but most
importantly, you will learn more
about yourself.

Research active
The department offers a diverse range
of research experience, expertise and
interests spanning the full range of
Business and Management functions
and activities including leadership
and knowledge exchange, innovation,
sustainability and corporate social
responsibility. The interaction with other
specialist departments at the Cheshire
campus, such as sports, exercise,
contemporary arts and humanities
has developed further expertise
in researching the business and
management dimensions of these fields.
Staff in the department are not only
actively involved in research in
their own particular subject areas
but equally in integrated research
projects. Such projects seek to draw
on the expertise across a number of
disciplines and employ a variety of
research methodologies. These research
groups are seeking to develop their
current work through partnerships with
colleagues in other institutions in the
UK and overseas.

Innospace Cheshire
Innospace is an incubator for alumni and
students business and social enterprise.
Located within the campus, you can
have your own desk with a networked
PC, postal address and professional

be joining a vibrant network of other
entrepreneurs and businesses to help
you develop your business ideas and
build your success.
Working with businesses and
the community
The Cheshire campus has an excellent
reputation for working with local
businesses to offer expertise, facilities
and bespoke training. Whatever the

visits many countries to inform students about the
opportunities for study at the University.
The team provides international
students with advice on a wide range
of matters from social events and
immigration to day-to-day living in the
UK. There is an opportunity to meet
local service providers, the Universitys
key support staff and other new
students during our welcome events.
If you fly into Manchester International

International qualifications
You can find country specific information
about many international qualifications

achieve IELTS 6 or above, with no less
than 5.5 in any component.

If you would like to improve your

English before you start your course we
can help. There are courses in general
and academic English to help you
achieve the level of English language
proficiency you need before you start
your course.
During your studies if you need any
help with any aspect of your English
language, from writing a report to
communicating with your supervisor
or seminar group, year-round English
Language support is available through
your faculty or through our British
Council accredited English Language
Centre. Support is available through
