Temple of Segesta
The temple of Segesta is located on 304 meters-high hill
between Mt. Barbaro and the Pispisa massif, Sicily, Italy and it was probably
built in 417 BCE. Even though the temple was never completed even in the
ancient times, it was mysteriously abandoned. The temple of Segesta lacks
of sculpture, altar, and deity dedication, but it is also known as the earliest
Doric style temple. The temple is a Doric ancient Greek style because its base
goes straight forward to the base and it has not volute capital (a spiral or ornament
decoration); however, the temple escaped from the destruction by the
Carthaginians in the late of 5th century. It was never painted although most of the
Ancient Greek temples were painted with pigments made from minerals, soot,
ground stones, vegetables, and animal matter.

In addition, the Doric temple of Segestas roof is missing, but its dimensions
are 21 x 61 meters with a total of 36 Doric columns. There are 6 columns on each
faade and 14 columns along the length, and each column measures 9.33 meters

and they stands over three and a half step base .The temple was built using
travertine, and travertine is a form of limestone.
