The Most Important Topics I Have Learned From Module 2

Module 2 offered a wealth of information concerning classroom management, lesson
planning, and effective teaching. It also clearly outlined competencies 3, 4, and 8. Within these
competencies reflections on designing instruction using goals, engaging instruction, and active
learning were outlined. From this myriad of paramount information I found the following to be
of vital significance to my journey in the educational field.
Productive Learning Environments: Classroom Management
The Importance of Classroom Management
For a classroom to be an environment that encompasses productive learning, there has to
be consistent order with a focus on learning. Students should feel safe and excepted in the day to
day routines. Clear and understood goals that produce learning and self-regulation should be set
for the classroom. The classroom should also breed the development of responsibility where the
teacher guides activities as he or she creates and manages a productive learning environment.
Planning for Classroom Management
When planning for classroom management, a teacher must reflect on student
characteristics, the physical environment, establishing rules of behavior, and the procedures he or
she will need to implement to create an efficient learning environment. When looking at student
characteristics a teacher not only looks at the age, maturity, and developmental differences of
his/her students but must also consider the cultural diversity. The arrangement of the room must
incorporate the type of learning and classroom expectations should solicit student input, state
positive and clear expectations and have an emphasis on self-regulation.
Implementing Classroom Management and Using Interventions.
Classroom management plans should be prepared and implemented on the first day.
Classroom rules and procedures should also continue to be consistently enforced throughout the

school year. Clear and open communication and involving parents in the process is also key to
classroom management success. The most effective teacher will be aware of what is going on in
all parts of his/her classroom at all times. The teacher should focus on the positives, praise
desired behavior, ignore inappropriate behavior when possible and use indirect cues or desists to
regulate behavior. When necessary, logical consequences should be applied. When a behavior is
serious or persistent, it should be dealt with firmly and directly.
Planning for Learning
A teacher needs to plan so that he/she can be confident in the content and the decisions
about learning activities. Planning helps to simplify instruction and allows for the teacher to
have the appropriate materials on hand for the classroom activities. An array of factors influence
planning. Available time and resources, a teachers values and beliefs, a learners developmental
and emotional needs as well as standards, content and context all play a part in influencing
planning.
Effective Teaching
An effective teacher provides a positive classroom climate and shows his/her students
that they really care about them. An effective teacher uses his/her time wisely by being
organized and on task. They also have high expectations, are enthusiastic and communicate
clearly.
Competencies 3, 4, and 8
Within competencies 3, 4, and 8 I found that setting goals when designing instruction is
crucial and that evaluating prior knowledge, connecting learning to real-world experiences, and
understanding various learning styles as well as accommodating abilities allows a teacher to be

most effective in the classroom. I discerned that student-centered, active learning that promotes
critical thinking can motivate student participation and success.
Conclusions
The abundance of information found in this module has better equipped me to be an
organized, focused, and effective teacher. It has given me a bounty of ideas to add to my teacher
toolbox and it has strengthened my confidence in my ability to be an effective teacher. I am now
much more knowledgeable about managing a classroom, planning, and delivering effective
learning activities.

[Add footnotes, if any, on their own page following references. For APA formatting

requirements, its easy to just type your own footnote references and notes. To format a footnote
reference, select the number and then, on the Home tab, in the Styles gallery, click Footnote
Reference. The body of a footnote, such as this example, uses the Normal text style. (Note: If
you delete this sample footnote, dont forget to delete its in-text reference as well. Thats at the
end of the sample Heading 2 paragraph on the first page of body content in this template.)]

Note: [Place all tables for your paper in a tables section, following references (and, if applicable,
footnotes). Start a new page for each table, include a table number and table title for each, as
shown on this page. All explanatory text appears in a table note that follows the table, such as
this one. Use the Table/Figure style, available on the Home tab, in the Styles gallery, to get the
spacing between table and note. Tables in APA format can use single or 1.5 line spacing. Include
a heading for every row and column, even if the content seems obvious. A default table style has
been setup for this template that fits APA guidelines. To insert a table, on the Insert tab, click
