Chicago, IL (PRWeb) June 13, 2007 -- For the first time in its short history, Urban Influence Magazine (UIM) is
available on newsstands. In just three years, UIM has become the only publication created in partnership with a
civil rights organization (National Urban League) and a small business owner (T.Brown Publishing) to be
distributed on newsstands nationwide - bringing unique coverage of African American emerging professionals
into the spotlight.

Focused on business, lifestyle and community, UIM, launched in 2004, expanded its reach as a result of a strong
reader base and an increasing demand for stories that profile today's African-American leaders and issues of the
concern within this highly sought demographic. The June/July 2007 third annual "Men of Influence" issue raises
the bar for images of African-American men and their families by highlighting achievements that are not often
celebrated.

In its third annual "Men of Influence" issue, UIM's cover story features nationally syndicated radio host Tom
Joyner and his sons, Thomas Jr. and Oscar Joyner, discussing life lessons, giving back and building their
influential media empire. This is one of several stories showcasing generations of African-American men who are
continually uplifting the community and making history in their everyday lives. The issue hits newsstands just in
time for Father's Day.

Known to many as "the hardest working man in radio", Tom Joyner credits much of his company's success to his
sons who are responsible for running the Tom Joyner Foundation and REACH Media. In Like Father, Like Sons:
The Joyners Fuse Family and Purpose, the Joyners reveal the secret to building a successful media empire
together. "Radio plays a major role in the black community and to use it just to play music would be a crime. We
use radio to help us become pro-active in the community and on a national level," said Tom Joyner. Learn more
about their family tradition and why "super-serving the community" is their major focus.

The John Thompson Story is a touching father/son story that captures the love that legendary Georgetown
University coach and pioneer John Thompson, Jr. shares for his son and the game of basketball. Thompson, who
made NCAA history by becoming the first African-American coach to win the Final Four championship in 1984,
reflects on seeing his son lead Georgetown to the 2007 Final Four. "I've been amazed at the number of people that
come up to me and say 'I know you're proud of your kid.' And I am," shares Thompson. Get an inside look at what
really makes the 6'10 general proud.

UIM also salutes 11 African American men who continually demonstrate excellence in their lives by making a
difference in the community. This year's "Men of Influence" profiles are:
