challenges that children
face.

The student can

The student can discuss

children face and are able
to explain the differences
between a risk and a

The student can discuss

just one or two risks and
challenges that children
face but they dont seem
to understand the
difference between a
risk or challenge.

The student is just

beginning to discuss risks
and challenges that
children face. They need
teacher support to do this
and have trouble explaining
their answers.

Causation
The student can show
understanding of why
these children find
themselves facing these
risks and challenges.

The student can show a

why these children face
these risks and
challenges. They can

presented to them.

The student can show

basic understanding of
why these children face
these risks and
challenges. Their
answers are short and
underdeveloped without
much explanation.

The student doesnt show

an understanding of cause
and effect and can not
explain why children face
these risks and challenges
around the world.

student did to make the
situation better?

During this unit, the

student took some
action to make a

situation better.

During this unit, the

Social skills
Respecting what others
think, sharing and taking
turns.

In this unit, the student

has shown a lot of
respect for others by
listening to their ideas
and waiting for my turn
to add thoughts.

In this unit, the student

has shown respect for
others by listening to their
ideas and taking turns
when talking. Sometimes
in group situations he/she
shouted out and forgot to
wait for turns..

Showing respect was a

bit of a challenge. The
student needs to show a
little more respect by
listening to other
peoples thoughts
instead of always being
the one talking or not
paying attention.

The student interrupted

others during discussions
and/ or I did not listen from
the heart. S/he was often
distracted or not paying
attention.

Self management
Planning and setting up
for the video.

The student was very

well prepared for the
video interview. They
prepared their answers
ahead of time and
practiced speaking
clearly for the camera
in an appropriate way
during the practice
lessons.

The student gave some

thought to how they
would respond during the
video interview but didnt
practice their lines
enough to seem confident
in front of the camera.
They also struggled to
use all the practice time
effectively during the
sessions provided.

The student needed

constant reminders to
get some things
prepared for the video.
They were off task
during the practice
sessions and therefore
were not able to deliver
their answers clearly in
their video interview.

The student needed

teacher support to do this
task and was not able to
manage themselves
effectively when planning
for or delivering their video
interview messages.

The student spoke

clearly, projecting
their voice to the
camera. They used
a couple of new
words from this unit
and communicated
a clear message.

The student should have

she didnt use new words
from this unit and the
message communicated
was a little confused. It
was hard to hear the
answers in the video
message and the student
had trouble making eye
contact.

The student needed

some support when

on better presenting
their ideas verbally.

adult support with
staying on task and
making good use of
the time.

This was Loas first unity of inquiry and he was getting used to researching, evaluating, analyzing information. He showed a good willingness
to participate and to take on new challenges. The preparation for the video was a challenge for Loa, he needed support throughout because
the task was a completely new experience for him. Although the reflection, causation and responsibility aspects of the assessment were not
addressed in this video, Loa did display, important learner profile attributes, as listed in the assessment rubric..
