PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

A philosophy is a search for wisdom. There are a lot of people who have different
philosophies. It is okay to have your own unique and personalized philosophy. In a career,
especially teaching, it is very critical to have your own philosophy. A personalized philosophy
can include, why you want to be a teacher, what you personally believe is important in the
classroom, and provides a framework for your thinking. I have developed my own personalized
philosophy for education.
The first part of my philosophy for education is that teaching is one of the few careers
that you can help change the world. As a teacher you make an impact on every single one of your
students. I think it is very important to treat students with respect, and with a positive and
encouraging attitude. As an educator you can greatly change your students lives, make that
change matter.
Another part of my philosophy for education is that students learn how to apply problems
or concepts to real life situations. It does not take skill or critical thinking to memorize material
and be able to test on it. The real learning comes from being about to take what you learned in
the classroom and be able to relate it to your everyday life. I believe testing students too much on
every single new concept learned does not show if they truly understand the concept. That is why
I think it is very important for the students to be able to apply the problems or concepts to real
life situations.
My philosophy for education also includes never giving up on a student. I believe that
everybody should have the opportunity to learn and that they have the ability to learn. Just
because a student does not excel in a certain subject, or is very reluctant to try and learn it. Does
not mean that they cannot learn it and be successful. I strongly believe it is important to not label
your students as the problem child or anything along those lines. That could ruin their self-

image as well as their image in your eyes mind. Every student has the ability to learn, and they
could just be reluctant because they do not understand the subject. As a teacher it is important to
be patient with the students and to never give up trying to teach any of them.
Having a personalized philosophy is very important for any career, especially in teaching.
Having a philosophy can help you while teaching by reminding you why you wanted to do this
career on the tough days, it can help you realize how you wish to make an impact on your
students lives, and what is really important to you as a teacher. My personalized philosophy for
education includes, helping change the world with one student at a time, teaching students how
to apply concepts to real life situations, and never giving up on any student.
