1816: Argentina got its independence from


Spain
Basically for 50 years two groups fought for
the ideal country organization:
Federals: They wanted the autonomy of
the states
Unitarians: States should not be
independent from Buenos Aires
Finally Federals won, but Argentina is pretty
much centralized in Buenos Aires

1878-1885: Julio Roca killed all the indians,


expanded the argentine territory (this is the
reason why Argentina does not have native
population) and gave lands to his generals
A strong economical force was born: the
oligarchy
Oligarchys power was based on exclusion and
electoral fraud
Lots of european inmigrants came to populate
the empty lands. A strong presence of
anarchists and socialists
